I wasn't really too angry at first. I just saw this as a possibility that has unfortunately came to fruition when Groce was fired. Now, however, with it looking increasingly likely that there was at least some shady stuff was going on I want nothing more than to see us Mizzou out of the gym this winter. It would be so satisfying to see the pro Mizzou media be forced to report that.

This is my favorite sport and favorite team but this whole Tilmon thing sickens me. NCAA needs to hammer some people. Who is the last team that got nailed for cheating?

This is a minor speed bump. Two weeks ago even Sports Illustrated was praising Illinois for finally playing "Big Boy" basketball for closing BU while he was preparing for the NCAA tournament and now we're crying that Missouri (of all teams) stole one of our commits? Sack up boys. I'm sure the new staff is taking this loss a lot better than this board is.

I agree that Tate's article is strong and clearly shares our frustration as well as our resolve in battling back to prominence.

I'm in full agreement with Tate's article. My only question is how long will it take before Tillman's father is seen driving a new car. Follow the money.

I would think there's a decent chance Illinois would not want the NCAA doing a thorough investigation of the Tilmon recruitment. And as others have said, I'm sure Underwood came in knowing he was at risk of losing some of the recruited class. Pretty much the cost of changing regimes. That it looks like we'll keep 3 of 4 is pretty good.
Not to mention, spite is not a good look -- to the media or future recruits.

Cuonzo reminds me of Bruce Pearl.......musta went to the same school of ethics.

He's close enough to Laphonzo that we can probably give him honorable mention membership in the Pearl-Phelps-Ellis axis of evil...

A number of posters claim that Tilmon is not a program changing recruit. I can't really think of any player in the last 4-5 decades that changed a program long term. Coaches change/build programs. UI has their coach. If he's who I think he is, the recruits will come.

Not exactly. Tim was never going to Illinois if Groce was still coach. His father Jeff was very unhappy with how Michael was used his freshman season. They weren't big fans.

With how or how much (or is how much a subset of how)? I for one am looking forward to freshmen playing more under BU and not having their first year essentially wasted.

Hearing pessimism re: Smith.

Feeling pessimism re: Smith.

Feeling lots of optimism re: Illinois Basketball.

Just hope Smith goes to Kentucky, so we don't have to play him.

Nah, if he's gonna be anything besides an Illini, it'll be a Spartan.

I would feel decidedly more optimistic if we hadn't spent one of our three precious assistant coach slots on an explicit transaction for two specific players, only to have the folly of that decision instantly thrown in our face.
I feel continuity with current players may have been just as huge a factor in this. That way we can do a great job of keeping the team we got together and blending them into the incoming class under a new system

Money is on Smith committing this weekend to MSU, Tilmon to Tigresses on the 12th.

Frustrating that a program can swoop in on a kid last minute and steal him away. Luxuries of being a perennial B1G contender with a future hall of fame coach.

Exactly Tillmon to Mizzou is going to happen for sure but o well i watched Tillmon this year alot and to me hes lazy gets in foul trouble alot thats y he went from a 5* to a 4*..And as for Smith this kid is a horse i would take him over any gaurd we have hands down he should of been our number one priority but it sounds like its MSU from what im hearing his dad really likes izzo

Not a lot of buzz on the Sparty Scout board about Smith. Also, it would be interesting to get feedback from his open gym on Saturday @ EL. Talk on their board is about '018 PG Loyer.

Just curious. Why the low opinion of Walker? I believe Whitman is a big picture guy. i.e. He wouldn't have hired Walker unless his value to the program went beyond the immediate recruits.

Now, I've been here long enough to know that you know *absolutely everything* ... but you simply don't know that.

Also, just curious: when we were trying to turn things around during the '90s with Kruger, did fans generally believe in our potential as a program (i.e., there's no reason we can't be as good as we were in the '80s with the right guy in place and some momentum, let's go do this!) or were we as pessemistic and negative then as we are now?

This really bothers me.

The guy is barely a blip on MSU's radar while we're falling over ourselves for him. Yet he's way more enamoured with East Lansing, and he's probably going to commit this weekend (whether or not he announces it).

I'm excited with our new coaching staff but am patently annoyed with recruiting. We have such bad luck with these high profile recruits!!

For once, could the ducks all get lined up a row?? :0

* I know, take a chill pill
