This is the best thing that could happen for college basketball, in the future coaches and players are going to think twice about giving payments.

Weber always knew this stuff was going on. People enjoyed mocking him when he complained about it.

It's lets make a deal time for those arrested. I certainly hope the actions of Lemont Evans at Oklahoma State were unilateral and do not involve in any way, shape or form BU. This could blow up very quickly and the Illinois basketball program could be in trouble if there are any allegations of complicity by BU.

basketball fans better buckle up, b/c it's going to be the ride of your life pertaining to college BB......

I sure hope this story doesn't prolong the recruiting commit dates of those we are involved with...

Did they change this legislation recently or relatively recently? If so, would it only affect coaches from the date it was changed and not retroactively? Of course, all this happened fairly recently.

I met Weber in about 2005 at some function or another. We were shooting the shucks in a group and someone mentioned a recruit that recently went elsewhere. Weber laughed and said, "Well, we all know they cheated to get him." We all laughed, assuming he was joking. A couple months later, the school involved was under NCAA investigation.

Weber knew what was up and was very frustrated by it.

As near as I can tell, Evans got money (at least $10,000) for directing first SC and then later OkSU players to particular pro agents. That looks like something that benefits only Evans, and not his team or his head coach.

If BU is responsible for this, then Bill Self is responsible for whatever it was that gave Snacks the munchies!:D

IOW, not at all.

this is going to affect literally everyone's recruiting. Though I agree, Underwood now has to explain how he employed this guy and trusted him to parents everywhere.

Cart before the horse. Maybe the only reason he had a career was because of his ability to horse trade.

Anyway, $2500 may be a good thing for him, as there are often thresholds for crimes to be felony. Or maybe not. I am not a lawyer and don't have a clue on these particulars.

Indictment says Evans paid at least $22,000 over two universities. Link is in post #184. (Sorry, I'm lousy at linking stuff)

I don't remember exactly what was said about the NCAA/stripper allegations but I think it was a lot more defiant than this comment.

Louisville's interim president, Gregory Postel, acknowledged Tuesday afternoon that his school has received notice that it is included in a federal investigation "involving criminal activity related to men's basketball recruiting." He added: "While we are just learning about this information, this is a serious concern that goes to the heart of our athletic department and the university. UofL is committed to ethical behavior and adherence to NCAA rules; any violations will not be tolerated. We will cooperate fully with any law enforcement or NCAA investigation into the matter."
