How does it not hurt with Okoro? Another big to compete with...

lol - because 1.5 years

-Here let me make sure we suck because we don't have more players for good players to compete with because that has worked so well for us in recruiting fo the last 15 years

He played 1.5 years at Miss State. I'm not sure how it works, but I assume he would have 2.5 years of eligibility left, right?

Its the same thing that Kipper has -1 year. So Kipper came in half way through last season as a RS freshman. So if he played 1.5 years at Miss State he would come in as a RS soph halfway though next season.

Well being that we lose Finke and Black, there is a massive hole at the 5 spot in 2019. ANY team that Okoro joins would have players in front of him as a freshman, but here all he would have is a junior Ebo and a junior Herard. No other soph or seniors at those spots. Still can come in and easily play his way in, and on top of it, no player of his caliber should be scared by that. Plus BU has shown he is not afraid to play freshmen at all.

Regardless, you don't build your team around a player who isn't even committed yet. BU's job is on the line if he loses, he wont leave it up to chance to have 0 back up at the 5.

Considering Okoro apparently really likes UNC, I really doubt he'd be scared off by a transfer from Mississippi State.

If our talent level is such that virtually any of our recruiting targets can feel safe about coming in and starting right away, then it's not good enough. And if our talent level isn't good enough, we're not going to win.

More talent / more competition = always better than less talent / less competition.

He'd be a junior next season. Playing a half season this year uses up his sophomore year.

He would have used his freshman and sophomore years and have two years remaining. And I would think those two years would really be 1.5 if he enrolled immediately and played in the second half of the 2018 season. That would be his junior year with the following being his senior year.

I don't think Herard really fits our system, too slow. He will provide another big body and should help with defense and rebounding. We can't have bigs like Minnesota's just dominate the paint on us.

Okoro fits our system well, he can run, defend, board, and a developing shot.

Okoro will start over Herard.

Lmao @ Illini fan neuroticism:
"We need bigs! Now!"

Recruiting news of a big: "He doesn't fit our system. We need other types of bigs."

After watching Spicy G the last two games, I'll withhold my judgement of what this guy could be. Just go get him.:illinois:
He doesn't fit our system, he is slow and doesn't shoot well.

However, he is a monster and can do some very good things on the block. More importantly we desperately need bigs. So he'd be a great get.

I would not mind a class of

Ayo, Marlon Taylor, and Schnider Herard. Ayo will come in right away ready, Taylor would be the same, with athleticism and able to play 2 spots we desperately need as well, and Herard would be ready by B1G play at an interior position with minutes as well if not more after a year of Fletcher condintioning...

So to recap with this option:

5***** Guard
Former 2**, most athletic JC player considering ILLINI, no offer?
http://www.jucorecruiting.com/marlontaylor

Former 4****, Plenty playing time available.

This class address' each need we NOW have to some extent, also gives us players that can contribute ASAP until hopefully we get Liddell and Okoro to join the ranks!

Lol, so it doesn't matter that he "doesn't fit our system". Pointless.:illinois:

I get the sentiment...Underwood has also said something about diversity and liking different pieces...a true big is a different piece for us right now, our offense will give him some post up opportunities so I think we can find a place in our system for him

Who is out there that wants to come? It's not like Underwood is swimming in choices here.

We need someone over 6'6" to help keep people off Leron.

Have you watched any of our games this year? Have you seen the pace we play at? Have you seen Finke and black inside and outside?

Now watch any of herards videos. Seen him further than 5 feet from the hoop? Does he run well? (He does have a really quick spin move) seen him shoot it at all?

The reality is, if he plays it will be in stints or we will have to slow the pace. So will he help, yah. Will he scare Okoro, I highly doubt it.

One in the hand, yadda yadda yadda.

Here's a crazy point of view: what if you don't get Okoro and pass on the transfer? then where are we?
