Could be 7, if both Ramey and Jones come. Probably 6.

Its insane that that 7 is even possible. Whats worse, 8 is possible.

2- rollover scholarships (AYO, Griffen)
3- Alstork (Kane)
4- MS (Open- hopefully Jones)
5- Leron (Open- hopefully Trice)

6- Matic/TJL (Hopefully Ramey, if TJL leaves)
7- Matic/TJL (Who knows. Some wing? Roll over to 19?)
8- Finke (Probably would just roll over to 19)

7 or 8 would make for perfect class balance.:)

This has the same feel as last year when the incoming freshmen are going to be better than the existing roster. If we have 8 incoming we will be lucky to win 4 BIG games.

Depends on who they are.

If it somehow includes a mix of Ayo, Ramey, Jones, Caroline, Cunningham (3-4 of those) then I feel your comment is silly.

Basketball is not like football. You can get good in a hurry with a good class.

I keep seeing Caroline and Cunningham's names. Both are juniors as far as I can tell. If they transferred wouldn't they have to sit a year or do we know they're on pace to graduate?

Jordan Caroline would offset Leron leaving but I just don't see how that could happen.

Both would be grad transfers.

Ryan Taylor 6’6” guard, best shooter in the MVC is also grad transfer. Our current DBO recruited him to Evansville. FYI.

Well it is definitely looking more and more like we will have at least 5 new players next season at least.

Ayo
Griffin
Kane

?
? (think it is 6 in the end)

I'll bite (in order of commitment):

Ayo
Griffin
Kane
Gio
Jones
Cunningham

Is there any news on Jones? We still in it? Is he expected to make a decision soon?

Courtney Ramey and Webster Groves advance to 5A state championship. They will play Chaminade which features Jericole Hellems. That should be a great game. Did the sophomore guard who is a really good shooter ever make it to campus for an unofficial visit, Luke Kasubke?

He is expected to visit Xavier, and Miss. St.. Xavier has a senior at the sg, and wf positions averaging 30 and 34 minutes a game. Won't visit until they finish in the tournaments. Miss. State is in the NIT.

Thanks.

Cunningham will not be a grad transfer as stated in the first paragraph.

His season was still going on at that moment.

It’s a Dayton home publication.

He can graduate by end of summer if he wants a la Alstork

I'm not sure why so many think we're the leader in this race. Xavier will offer early playing time, and they've been a great program lately. They can sell him on being the next Bluiett, which is a much stronger selling point than anything we have.

we wont be installing a new system for every player next year. Tyler Underwood is the only one who knew the system in August of last year. Having "veterans of the system" cant be understated...I believe it will accelerate the learning curve for all newcomers.

They're both redshirt juniors, so theoretically they could become grad transfers if they so choose. Sorta like Finke.

But there is no evidence that either are transferring.....much less coming to Illinois. Caroline plays for a top-25 team and is thriving under a coach with a lot of NBA experience. Why would he leave unless Musselman leaves? And although there were some rumors several months back that Cunningham will transfer, nothing has substantiated that.

I really don't know why people keep penciling them into possible future lineups. We have a better chance at Ramey, IMO, and our chances at him are very low. But that's just my view.

A more realistic class:

Ayo
Griffin
Kane
Giorgi
Trice

That's not a bad class by any means (no class with Ayo is "bad"), but not exactly the most talented class.

I agree, it's not the most talented, but there are contributors there in positions of need. If the freshmen make a significant jump, we could be a decent BIG team. Maybe even middle of the pack. I know...we've all binged on the Kool-Aid before and woken up with hangovers, but I can't help hoping.

Really think that Alstork getting on campus so late was a big reason he struggled so much. Not a fan of any more of that happening any time soon.

Not really sure this is the right thread to ask this, but since it does affect recruiting, I'll forge ahead:

Does anyone else seem really likely to transfer? I know Matic and TJL have been talked about, but is either, or both, highly likely? Also, when is the latest anyone can remember a player transferring?

It's interesting that Oregon was in to see Ramey last night. So SMU and Oregon still hanging tough in that recruitment.

I don't know if we are the leader, but playing with Ayo may be a plus for us. Ayo says he's been working on Jones to come to Illinois.

Hopefully he isn't a big fan of Skyline Chili....
