If I were a top prospect, I would release a top 30. Just to show how awesome I was.
I don't think you can make that conclusion. If a guy's not happy, or doesn't buy-in or fit, it's not going to be a surprise to the staff. Don't get me wrong, the relationship works both ways nowadays --players leave, and coaches evaluate and prioritize recruits. The final timing can look one way and actually be coincidental. Can you even Crean a player you didn't recruit?
Personally, my expectations for recruiting have changed --it's a very different landscape, and guys like Trent are the exception. I do think BU will develop his own culture and identify guys, but the number of misses and the number of offers he puts out makes me doubt his recruiting is above average for a high major guy. He clearly understands the recruiting game, but some guys have charm (e.g. Self) that make them exceptional.
Ha ha. Yep. Jones was a target since well before last fall but he just was just taking his time with the process and so he was never going to be a fall signee. Glad we locked him down, though. I think he's gonna be a good one.Jones is the best plan g kid ever recruited.
Good point. And also, the assistant coaches ALSO know better what kids will and won't work with BU's personality and system. They had little time themselves to learn when they were recruiting the first class under BU. That shared knowledge is going to help a lot going forward. That's an interesting point about personality in recruiting. Charmers like Self will always do well. But the longer BU is here and able to develop longer relationships with recruits, both sides will be able to suss out if there's a match in personalities between player and coach. I think his hard driving style will resonate with certain types of recruits, and they'll end up being a better fit for his balls-to-the-wall system. We'll also hopefully have fewer poor cultural fits like Matic and Ebo probably were, a result of short recruitments where neither side know what they're getting.
I agree. These people don't realize that some of these kids were just getting noticed and/or still developing. Just seems like a bunch of bashing prematurely. Let the situation play out. These guys on the board are writing kids off before they play a minute in the O&B. Writing off Underwood when he had to clean house to get his style of players here. Let his style of players actually become upperclassmen before rushing to judgement. Jones and Griffin look like straight competitors. We need more players like Trent, Damonte, and Kip and less crybabies like Lucas. We need players that step up to a challenge, not run from it. I have faith that coach will get a roster full of hard nosed scrappy players, it just may take a few years to get a full roster of them. Especially these days where everyone gets a metal.

What exactly did Lucas do to earn the title of "crybaby"from message board experts?
where everyone gets a metal.
he ain't heavy, he's my brother.Heavy.
DJ Jefferies just decommitted from Kentucky. 6’7 wing in 19. Wonder if he was encouraged by staff due to potential other commitments coming???
Absolutely nothing. It's just an instance of message board warriors interpreting reality so that it fits their predetermined narrative.
Not a good sign.
DJ played for Penny last summer. This has more to do with Penny and Memphis then it does Whitney to UK. Every piece of news on this points to Memphis. Can we actually read the article before we come back posting doom and gloom of the Illini.
Read the entire article prior to posting. Zero doom and gloom posted. I simply was curious how people interpret this. Appreciative of your feedbackDJ played for Penny last summer. People that quit the team are crybabies in my book.
Would the same go for people who quit jobs to find better situations?
Lucas most likely wanted to be starting point guard, not a down the bench option. So, if he found a better situation, then good for him.
For whatever reason, the chemistry was not there last year. So I think the changes are ultimately going to be what is best for everyone involved. The players and the program.
Because suspensions are never the players fault.Lucas' suspension probably didn't help matters.
You get a metal and you get a metal and you get a metal!
