Haven't posted in months but had to after reading all the negative post on recruiting from all the strokes on this board. Since Illni basketball hasn't been relevant for over 10 years not sure people post how 2018 class isn't good. Best class they have had in over 10 years. Also how 2019 class isnt going to be good. Wake up people Illinois hasn't been a destination for recruits since Weber took over. Cant expect to get top 100 recruits until you win again and make the tournament. In Brad we Trust Make Illni Great Again.
This designation is at least three years too early. I'm assuming you think this is the best class in over 10 years because of either a) overall rank or b) ayo being the best recruit we've gotten in a while. We haven't seen any of these guys play in a single game yet, so your claim can't be based off actual production (as it will be in a few years).
If it's because of a), then you're plainly wrong. We have one RSCI top 100 player. 247 has us as the 25th ranked class. Good stuff, but not the best. 2010 was #13, 2013 was #13, and 2015 was #15. Now, of course none of those classes panned out as we had hoped (especially 2010, with both Leonard and Richmond being ranked higher than Ayo, along with Head, that means 3 top 100 players). So rankings based this is not the best class we've even had in the past four years.
If it's because of b), well like I said their were at least two other guys with higher rankings than Ayo. JCL was around his rank. Of course, you can argue Ayo seems like a better prospect than any of those guys, and you may be right, but again, until he plays games in our uniform, this will still go undetermined.
The Griffey, DJ, Paul, et. al. class is probably the most accomplished class of the past decade in terms of skill. If this class produces three guys who contribute to the team as much or more than those three did, I'll be very surprised.
The 2018 class is good, especially given the circumstances, but it's too early to say they are our best recruiting class in the past decade, by literally any measure I can think of (except perhaps sheer volume).
