Yes, it would be great if Guerrier was good enough to be a plus contributor going into B1G schedule.....but...stop and think about how many kids his age can do that in the toughest conference in college hoops. He reportedly is <190 lbs. and never played against 6'9"+ All-American upper class competition. Steep learning curve. He would get some minutes if he wants to play, but not likely big minutes. Wouldn't I love to be wrong, but getting two newbies in the lineup (along with Oscar) to play big minutes is historically a huge stretch. Nice problem to have and wouldn't we love to have it.

Regardless, this team should be quite interesting to watch this coming season. We are hearing a lot of good things, but since I have lived in Mo. for the past 25 years, you got to show me. Unfortunately, every kid the Illini are recruiting seem to have the same idea.... but BU has got to keep knocking on their doors and sooner or later.........?
The Canadian sites list him at 215 and those are surely more accurate considering most of the American recruiting gurus have never seem him in person. It sounds like he's bulked in the past year or so.

This site has some pretty good stuff on him:

p.s. Don't underestimate top Canadian competition.

I recall seeing something about how Guerrier would redshirt for this season even if he enrolled in January. Anyone else recall that?

Sounds similar to Oscar. Everyone thinks he is going to a specific school yet hasn't committed there. Obviously the door is open. Neither of these guys is coming to central Illinois for the views.
And also sounds like TSJ!

I won't say that Quincy Guerrier is fat, but when they say he has a strong game around the rim, he has a strong game AROUND the rim.
Wow, a Laurel and Hardy reference. Not too many kids gonna get that one.

Cliff Levingston and Xavier McDaniel worked pretty well for Wichita State...likely the best pair of forwards period to play together in college. Cliff was listed at 6'8" and Carr an inch shorter, but both were more 3 type players and unstoppable. Don't know if Jones and Guerrier are as tall as listed, but they seem reported to have much of the same skill set as those two. Carr and McDaniel were something to see as I watched them play in the NCAA regional first round. Both were uncanny at 8-10 ft. bank shots off the dribble and super athletic. Love to see what those guys could accomplish along with Shannon and a couple of good, defensive, centers if Kane can be one. The game has changed a lot since then, but quick, athletic forwards can find a way to score....if they can defend well enough to get time on the court. It is a big if, but if things work out and BU can get a good center, OT or Cockburn, even Timme (thee forwards like those could work as well as 3 guards), they would be poised for a rise into to B1G challengers in a year or two and the MSU dunk drills will be stopped. It is a dream, but if Frazier and Ayo were around to play with that crew, it would be a special time again.

I saw those guys play when I was in grad school at SIU. They were a ton! Paul Pressey was at Tulsa, Bradley had that team, I think '82 that was snubbed by the NCAA and won the NIT when it still mattered. ISU had some good teams with Lamb and Cornley. The Valley was really good back then.

Couldn't agree more, and honestly I think that's an underappreciated source of this program's problems.

Nobody thinks about the opportunity cost of all those man-hours.

Like, a month ago everyone was at peace with us being out of the EJ Liddell race. But we huffed and puffed our way into bronze medal position, and now we have nothing and no time for plan B and we're talking about going to the spring with nothing in hand in two positions of desperate need AGAIN.
Respectfully, I disagree with this comment. No one, and I mean no one knows for sure until they commit. Think about how many times we ourselves have lost someone who we "had in the bag." Tough decision for these young kids. Too many prognosticators who have little insight but a whole lot of confidence in the declarations they make.

Bu fills out roster first spring (not best fit)..signs 5star in fall.....fills out roster with spring with guys who fit system...then setups up a bunch of visits following fall with 4 and 5star recruits who look to fit system. Looks good on surface. Focus on top recruits, great if close. If not, staff can identify lower ranked recruits to fit system. This seems to be the plan from outside, it makes sense.

Not many adults either!
You've got to love a forum that would mention Stan and Ollie! The best duo there ever was. I kinda think kids would get a kick ouf of the two if they only had the chance. Check out "Way Out West" and so many more.

Best Illini duo: Brown and Williams. Where's Dee now?

Other famous duos: Briggs and Stratton, Pratt and Whitney, Zager and Evans (not), Lea and Perrins (YES!)

"But they're not in color!!!" Actual complaint from a teenage acquaintance and wouldn't watch because of that.

Okay, getting off topic.

Just Fyi you have bounced back and forth between three guys - Levingston, Carr and McDaniel. Not sure which pair you meant, but Levingston and Carr played together for three years from 1979-82, while all three played together the 1981-82 season and then Carr and McDaniel two years from 1981-83. I assume you meant Levingston and Carr because X didn't play much as a freshman, but the other two were a dominate tandem for three years averaging a combined 31, 34 and 30 ppg and about 17 rpg combined.

Sorry, off topic, too. But do kids watch Three Stooges anymore: they're in vivid black and white, but not in the same league as L&H.

As far as recruiting goes, keep plugging away. Sell ($) the program, like Pitino, or do it rather honestly?

Underwood might not be Self, but he's a coach who wants to be at Illinois. Make the tournament, all will be well.

I say give Coach U time.

Some really good players during that era with Jim Les, Voise Winters and Hersey Hawkins from Bradley, Benoit Benjamin from Creighton and Steve Harris, Ricky Ross and Herb Johnson from Tulsa.

Guerrier isn't a power forward by any means but would he likely play the 4 for us given the holes in our roster?

I don't think so...he was pretty much a spot up shooter 2 years ago, and I dont know if he is a far cry better than say Griffin might be...there is no way Griffin plays a 4 at any time.
