He’s got 2 inches and about 30-40 lbs on Griffin. Griffin is a great shooter but Guerrier is overall a better player and has a much higher ceiling.I don't think so...he was pretty much a spot up shooter 2 years ago, and I dont know if he is a far cry better than say Griffin might be...there is no way Griffin plays a 4 at any time.
The majority of the illini fans want to see 2 things:
Results on the floor (winning)
Results on the recruiting front (top 50-100 talent on a regular basis)
Also they are tired of hearing the same old song & dance:
It takes time with "fill in the blank new coach"
Give it 2 or 3 years
Wait until 2020.... and then that never comes to fruition.
Have you seen either one play? He’s got 2 inches and about 30-40 lbs on Griffin. Griffin is a great shooter but Guerrier is overall a better player and has a much higher ceiling.
This is a wonderful summary of so many things . . .I don't think that's particularly relevant to my post.
But we landed Tevian after an Arizona offer. Should we have told him not to visit because of course he's going to Arizona?
Look, Groce couldn't close. Underwood's ability is in doubt. We can see the proof.
Was Groce before and Underwood now really bad at discerning a recruit's honest interest in our program? It's a real possibility. But people are valuing Derek Piper (hell, even anonymous message board posters) over actual conversations that are happening between a coach and a player and various people around that player.
It's a fairly common failure of human nature. That portion of knowledge which I possess is superior to the things I don't know.
In person? Of course not but I’ve seen some games online for both players. I think we’re overrating Griffin but I think he’ll be a good 3 and D player down the road as an upperclassman. I’m quite impressed with Guerrier though and think he can have an impact right away. Plenty of people have said that he’d be a top 50 guy if he lived in the US and I think that’s accurate. I also think that Griffin’s ranking of around 200th is accurate as well after seeing his ball handling and decision making. Back to Guerrier though, I think he would play the 4 for us if Kipper isn’t consistent on offense and doesn’t improve o defense.Have you seen either one play?

Keep in mind once the ball hits the wing in the base offense it doesn’t matter who the 1, 2, 3, 4 is. Defensively yes. Offensively, if he’s not at the high post spot, it doesn’t really matter.
You are what you can guard
I agree with that in a more controlled defense, but with the pressure defense we play and the constant help and rotation it requires how often are we seeing an isolated 1v1 in the post defensive matchup?

Just Fyi you have bounced back and forth between three guys - Levingston, Carr and McDaniel. Not sure which pair you meant, but Levingston and Carr played together for three years from 1979-82, while all three played together the 1981-82 season and then Carr and McDaniel two years from 1981-83. I assume you meant Levingston and Carr because X didn't play much as a freshman, but the other two were a dominate tandem for three years averaging a combined 31, 34 and 30 ppg and about 17 rpg combined.
Eh, often enough. And it's not like a wing guy is going to have the rim protection skills necessary to be the second layer of the defense either.
We were the most dunked-on team in America last year and I'll be pleasantly shocked if that doesn't repeat itself
I would like to see that stat from a real source. Most dunked on team. Or did you make that up?Eh, often enough. And it's not like a wing guy is going to have the rim protection skills necessary to be the second layer of the defense either.

Griffin and Gurrier both have somewhat limited film on them, and I would dare say not many have seen either live. Also not many would have wanted us to recruit either extensively either. I think Gurrier will be the overall bigger player (size), but I think there games may be similiar and Griffin will end up being a much better defensive player as well.
That's not an equivalent scenario. The coaching staff (and your sales reps) have a limited amount of time and resources to put into pursing recruits (or sales). You absolutely have to make decisions about where you are spending that time and those resources and part of that calculus is probably of success. Just because someone would be great for you system does not mean you go all in on them if they don't express a level of interest that gives you any confidence. We could have the whole staff follow James Wiseman around the country all season and it would be a colossal waste even though he would be an amazing pick up.

However, we all get together as a group and determine which opportunities are viable and determine how much time and resources are going towards each opportunity. I'm sure all coaching staffs do the same sort of sales planning. This is done on a daily, weekly, monthly basis as opportunities constantly come and go. You have to be flexible and open to various opportunities.
