Not sure if that is accurate or not but according to 247Sports, this is what Missouri has recruited since Martin took over.

2 - 5 stars
4 - 4 stars
3 -3 stars
1 - no rank

Now a 4 star and 3 star transferred (Harris and Roberts) but he added a 4 star (Mark Smith).

Saying Martin did more with less talent than Underwood is saying he coached them better and I doubt that is the case.
keep in mind he didnt recruit the Porters he hired them

Timme comes on board (not looking likely), and the whole recruiting season takes on a much different tone. We could sign another fringe big, like Payton, and it would look like a great class even if no one else came on board. However, if he doesn't, I won't let it dampen my enthusiasm for the upcoming year.

Great example that ratings aren't everything...and the staff is looking below the radar. Hi IQ players and athletes seems to be staff themes. Giorgi and Andres were definitely below the radar promising pickups that dont contribute to any star rating analysis or pontifications.

Is this their strategy or contingency plan? It would seem that if this was their strategy, the staff would get a couple those types inked in the fall and shoot for the top 50 guys as a parallel strategy. Hard to quantify, but when recruits see we have missed on all of our targets, do they see being the first one to commit as positive, or are they scared away?

It appears their strategy is to spend most of their recruiting efforts on the Burger Boys and then move to the next level. The problem with that has obviously been not signing anyone(1-Ayo last year) in the fall and scrambling in the spring, which undoubtedly takes resources away from the next fall class.

Here we go again....sing along....seriously if we had to go this route to rebuild (yes that is what we are doing), there are several 6-7 6-9 guys that look on tape as if they might be BU type of players. Of course it is Juco and of course it is low ranked guys, and of course we don't want them...lol, but some were highly recruited before like Merritt?

Not exactly sure what the specific strategy is, but based on recruits' attributes and BU comments .....athletes and IQ seem to be key attributes. I like that approach over star chasing approach that JG had....Brunson, etc.

A lot of those guys probably wouldn’t even get in to Illinois which narrows down our options even more from the few we would already have with that route.

Screw the MIF, we are like 1 for 7 with them anyway. Let's bring on Daytona State as our new pipeline.

Have only watched occasional highlights on local news last season. He held his own against Okoro if that means anything??? In most highlights though he looked like the 6’1 7th grader that was a beast because everyone was 6 inches shorter and hadn’t hit puberty yet.

How does he fair against top AAU comp? I think his #322 rank reflects that.
How much does ranking really reflect performance and ability?

All models are wrong but some are useful.

And if you can develop a model to predict the Currys of the basketball prep world, please share with the coaching staff ASAP

(using the generic you, of course)

How did Bryce's second year go?

It's shocking that a coach was able to convince players to go to Nashville for school. I wonder how many of these successful first year coaches are in towns like Champaign.

You mean like his brother consistently convinces players to go to Waco, TX?

Scott Drew had a tremendous run in his first 4 years in Waco..

Yeah, right. Let's compare Scott Drew's coaching and recruiting in his first 4 years, when Baylor received the death penalty in the NCAA (and deservingly so) in the aftermath of the Dave Bliss era, when Patrick Dennehy was murdered, Baylor was placed on probation until 2010, Baylor was barred from playing any nonconference games for the 2005–06 season (the first time such a "half-season" penalty had been imposed), the NCAA further reduced Baylor's paid recruiting visits from twelve to nine for the 2006–07 season (Baylor had already imposed restrictions on recruiting visits for the 2004–05 and 2005–06 seasons), ALL players were allowed to transfer with no penalty (becoming immediately eligible), and many other penalties.

Certainly a valid comparison.

Scott Drew built that program with recruiting from ground zero, yes, at Waco Texas.
