Meyer, Hardy, and Langely are golfing in this week's Shriners Hospitals for Children Open tournament in Las Vegas.

Never mind. None of them made the cut to get to the weekend. I'm sure they will try again next weekend.

Here are some news items I found:

- Guthrie made it past the second stage of Q-School to qualify for next month's final stage. Luke will have conditional status on the Web.com tour, but is looking to improve on that (meaning easier to qualify for tournaments).
- Hardy came up short by 2 strokes in his Q-School event, so he'll have to wait another year to try for his Web.com card. Since he has no status on any tour, I'll be curious to see if he tries to qualify for individual tournaments or moves to a third-tier tour (i.e. Canadian Tour, where Charlie Danielson played a couple years back).
- Meyer posted a T7 at Sanderson Farms a few weeks back playing on a sponsor's exemption. I'm hoping he plays more Tour events soon, he seems very comfortable out there.
- Langley made the cut in Mexico, while Points missed on his first event of the season.
- Last but definitely not least: Detry posted two T3 finishes in the past couple months in Europe, the latter against an impressive field. He is currently T3 in South Africa, 3 strokes behind Sergio Garcia. Final round will be on Golf Channel tomorrow morning (early). Good luck Thomas!

Strong showing so far for Team Belgium (Pieters/Detry) in the World Cup of Golf, tied for the lead with Team Korea. Round three coverage begins tonight at 7pm CST (Saturday in Australia). How awesome would it be to see an all-Illini team pull it off...

Team Belgium now up by 5 strokes (!) after round 3 behind a 63 in best ball (low score of the day for all teams). Final round is alternate shot. Finish strong guys!

I read somewhere that each player for the winning team will take home well north of $1million. That would be great, especially for Detry.

Pieters/Detry might be a formidable duo for Team Europe in future Ryder Cups. They seem to play REALLY well together, which definitely is no surprise.

Pieters seems to be rallying after a tough year - played well in the PGA Championship as well as the fall Euro events. Detry had a strong fall as well, and has a good shot to win his first pro event in the near future. Both could be in for a big 2019.

And the U of I was mentioned in the telecast! Two guys from Belgium, two Illini, two Thomases! And me, a duffer, who is also a Thomas! Not from Belgium. I'm
from DeKalb, Illinois, not DeKalb, Belgium. But I like the Thomas thing.

Excellent finish to Team Illini down under!! Hopefully this will be the first of many first place finishes for our golfing alumni.

After a strong year on Web.com, Langley has continued his push in the Tour. He's made 5 of 7 cuts, including the last four, and is putting together a nice weekend in Palm Springs. Yesterday he shot a bogey-free 65, and today he's birded 3 of his first 6 holes to get to T5 (four strokes behind Phil, who shot a 60 on Thursday). Keep it up Scott, hopefully we'll see you notch that first Tour win soon!

Langley currently sits at -15 going in to the final round, good enough for T12 and seven strokes off of the lead. Might be insurmountable in a "shootout" tournament where the winner will be around -28 or so, but hopefully he can post a top ten and take a big step closer towards making the FedEx cup playoffs.

Also, in the first round of the Web.com tournament in the Bahamas (a weird Sun-Wed tourney), Dylan opened with a 71 - good enough for T7 right now on what appears to be a challenging course and/or awful conditions. Seems like he thrives in those conditions, which will make him well-suited for majors (especially the U.S. Open as we've seen) but not so much on the regular tour events where -20 is the norm (i.e. John Deere). It'll definitely be fun to watch him develop as a pro. Brian Campbell is the other Illini playing, currently T33 at +2.

Just saw on the Golf Channel that none other than Gary Nicklaus is making a start ON THE CHAMPION'S TOUR!!!!!!!
Whoever told him he was allowed to grow up????

Scott fell back with a 73 yesterday, but now tied for third after a birdie-birdie start. He's now 4 strokes behind Casey, hopefully he can keep closing the gap. Coverage is on CBS now, and they did show Langley's chip and putt on No. 2.

Also, play was delayed due to a hailstorm and probably won't finish until tomorrow.

Five birdies later, Langley cards a 31 on the front nine! He's currently tied for second and two strokes off of the lead.

Except for the scenery, Pebble pro-am is just another ho-hum tournament last round. Bunch of dullards announcing and no Bill Murray!

Beautiful place, though, and I like Nick. Rather have him at NBC than Azinger, but Nick ain't the controversial type on air, it seems.

Great coverage overall, but McCord is still a jerk IMO. And Kostis (sp?) is a non-entity making million$.

Go Scott!! He is hanging tough today in difficult conditions. Let's hope for the best. TV is finally giving him some air time.
