How many recruits did they have around the same time last year?
I do not have any evidence to my answer, but I feel as if we had around 6ish????? Beason, Williams, Seth Coleman, Kyron Cumby, Joseph Thompson, Griffin Moore.....Nick Fedanzo maybe

You know, all this time the running assumption (among many) is that recruits are waiting to see how we do this year.

Thus, recruits aren't sure what to think about Illinois, and are taking their time to find out.

But isn't it just as likely that recruits DO have their thoughts about Illinois, and on the basis of those thoughts are opting to go elsewhere?

I mean, when you lose by 39+ at home three times in a single season -- and give up 60+ on three occasions -- maybe, just maybe, kids see that and think "nah, it's not happening at Illinois". If it were Lovie's first year, sure. But it was year #3.

This notion that kids are on the fence and just waiting to see how things go this year might very well be an optimistic viewpoint.

I would completely go with this, if it wasn't for the age discrepancy of the football team. I think if it was Seniors and Juniors getting railroaded, then IL wouldn't even be in all these top 5s. But they are. IL are in recruiting battles with talent they haven't been in able to touch in a long time. They are doing something right. I don't think that can be argued. I also think the play on the field in the past 3 years is completely holding everybody back.
Keep recruiting the way you are, start winning, problem solved.....lets hope

For a lot of HS players, the coaches are showing the gaps that we had last year, players can see how they can make an immediate impact.

Right now, players have liked the program but there has been a lot of negative recruitment, suggesting Lovie will not be here much longer. That is the hesitation from many of our top targets, at least that is what I am hearing. Most think Lovie is an exceptional coach that inherited a really bad situation.

Not sure if this has been posted, but apparently we got a commitment from a Long Snapper out of Benet Academy. His name is Aidan Hall, but I can't find much more info on him.
Btw it looks like he is coming immediately, as he already graduated high school.
He’ll gets lots of snaps.

For out of staters, we still have some big names on board. We’ve done much better in Florida, Texas, and Missouri, than in Illinois. Though it’s disappoimting to lose players, there are plenty of targets still on the board

I like our shot with Blaise sparks, I like that we have a shot with issiah walker and jay Wilkerson. There are many more on the list. Start to panic if we go 0 and 3

Other than the two that you mentioned above, who do you think are our top targets at this point in time?

Isaiah Walker is a top 100 offensive tackle said he likely gonna vist. Blaise sparks is a huge guy 6'7 301 guy. And jay Wilkinson is a top 700 wide receiver who had 19 receiving touchdowns as a junior last year. But he was also playing with a 4 star wide receiver. BUT 19 TOUCHDOWN. Two sleepers in this year class. One is a 2 star wide receiver for Florida name jevon Williams a speed guy with two sports ability Nichols from Evanston he just a legit p5 back. Hos offers list proves it.

This question is a little loaded, the team is mostly in good position to win 8-10 in 2020. we have some positions of need for 2020, but overall 2020 will be a good team. We need linemen, so any lineman would be good. There are plenty still on our board

I would like to see us add some play makers, but we got a great one in jason Thompson and a potential with Marcellus Moore, Lauan Powell, or Wilkerson . I think adding a defensive end, like Noah arinze, maybe another linebacker, like a schirmer, seems to be a solid sleeper, would help.

The thing to remember is that the staff put a lot of effort on 2019, looking to fill holes. We picked up a lot of transfers, so much of the summer was spent recruiting 2019, they know they are in good position for 2020 season and are trying to focus on filling positions that need a lot of development, like the line.

Their focus right now is on recruiting positions of need.
