I think the best option is to re recruit samba. Might not be possible, but I think this is a no or limited contact period, hopefully can persuade. Ask if anyone has reached out to him lol (if it’s not possible yet). Or maybe no suitors of interest once live period begins??? Grasping for straws. He’ll probably announce a destination tomorrow with my track record.

Seems like a good idea from my vantage point. If they wanted him here in the first place, they should keep on him. I suspect once he's in the portal, it's a tall order to keep him, especially since there are going to be programs with an easier path to PT.

From my outsider's perspective, there's a bit of a logjam at the 5, given Giorgi's already shown he can play it, and Kofi is expected to compete there. I don't know how they recruited Samba, but we were in a very different situation, with an easy path to PT. It's not hard to imagine Samba was told the minutes were there for the taking, but Giorgi was so good, and Samba late to enroll and behind, that those minutes never materialized even with ADR hobbled. Fast forward a year, and Samba's got way more competition, from young guys who aren't about to graduate. Sometimes even a good opportunity doesn't work out.

Curbelo picks up offers from Maryland and Texas Tech. Oh well, Marcus Watson, Jr come on down 57.

Looks like jump shots and dunks (and blocking shots) must be against the rules.

As the story goes .........

About a 100 years ago, an Australian visited the US, was impressed with "basketball" and took back with him a handwritten copy of the rules. While reading them on a ship, on his way home, the wind blew some pages away.

Thus was born netball.

With a subset of basketball rules.

my dream is Illini nailing down Chicago this year and getting Miller, Steward, and Burnett (I know he transferred to Cali, but Champaign is on his radar.) Then, add Kalkbrenner. Anyone know where we stand w these 4?

Illini offer 2023 guard Rodney Gallagher. First offer for Gallagher. From the article: "None of the big recruiting sites have the rankings out for 2023, but the Naismith National Youth All American Report has a ranking out. They have Gallagher as the No. 21 player in the class of 2023 and a four-star rating"

Rodney Gallagher offer

Illinois University

I think we get 2/5 of Miller, Watson jr, Steward, Burnett, Curbelo. And either Kalkbrennar or Coleman Hawkins. I think we’re sitting pretty for this class.

I think it could be Miller, Watson/Curbelo and Hawkins, that is who I think we might be in best with at this point.

Just have to let it play out. We don't have any natural locks. Seems like the pool of Illini die hards is not very large.

Hopefully, by December or January, the boys from Chicago and Stl will see champaign as a viable option to win and stay close to home. I really think that’s what’s keeping the 4-5 star guys from committing. Just need one loaded class to get the ball rolling. This year is enormous, have to win, and then capitalize on a pretty loaded class of seniors in Illinois.
