I don't think we have much of a shot for Antonio Johnson either. He is supposedly committing soon. Possibly a case where small chance becomes no chance if we show our focus on someone else right now.

The current situation at cornerback has me worried (further reinforced by Robert's write-up). Next year it's

1: Hobbs - Martin (barring blow-up from Hobbs)
2: Beason - Walker (is Beason going to be completely healthy and ready-to-go?)
3: Thompson - Witherspoon (unknowns at this time, Thompson seems to been injured most of camp, Witherspoon arrived very late)

**Assuming someone from the 2020 class will move to corner. Almost wouldn't want a transfer at this position because they will be plenty of upperclassmen already in position (but would love a 4-star LSU CB that has already taken snaps regardless).

For the record, I’ve heard Witherspoon is crushing it since he has entered camp.

Not 100% true. Yes football is king in the south BUT. Illinois has a very good talent pool. We just cant seem to lock our talent down. Iowa, MSU, Wisky, ND, NW, Ole Miss and recently minny and nebraska have been poaching illinois for talent for YEARS. Think of all the O lineman from illinois that ND, Wisky and iowa have taken from our state. Wisconsin has sent a few RBs to thz league from illinois. We have the talent. Illinois sits in a very underrated area between STL(which we are making inroads in now) memphis and nashville, indianapolis and chicago. These 4 cities can provide plenty of talent. And will if we start winning and making noise. I believe lovie needs to find a chicago version of corey patterson....... but i believe its slowly coming together
MI and OH get a lot more talent poached than IL. MI has lost talent to all of the B1G schools as well as to schools like Alabama, LSU, USC, Mississippi, Miami, and many others. I realize that everyone wants to believe that IL is the mother of talent but, it is not.

I’ve yet to meet any credible person, at least on this board, that believes this.

What people need to believe and not out of pride but because it’s based in documented, factual evidence is that we have a significantly higher probability of actually signing an elite level talent from Illinois or Missouri than we do from anywhere else, which is really all that matters. Who cares how many talented, amazing football players hail from the upper crest of Alaska if none of those kids want to come to Illinois to play for us?

So, I suppose that having played for Illinois and coming from out of state gives me no credibility at all. Oh, well.

Lovie was supposed to be the pied piper from Chicago.

I'm not sure I challenged your credibility, unless you are of the belief that everyone in the state of Illinois considers their talent to be superior to others in which case, my only comment was that I haven't seen that personally. And I haven't.

As for our probability of landing elite level HS recruits and from where, this is factual evidence. There's no opinion to attach credibility to when dealing with factual evidence.

Your words, "I’ve yet to meet any credible person, at least on this board, that believes this." in reaction to my post. Last time I looked, my words were on this board.

My words, the words you are quoting, are in relation to this comment:

“I realize that everyone wants to believe that IL is the mother of (all) talent”

I have yet to meet anyone credible that believes this, which would include you. You clearly do not believe it either.

It seems you're both talking about slightly different things. Both have points. Also what position?

I always loved watching Rice play. Was there when he chased Jeff Blake around I nbn think it was him.in the Liberty Bowl
Rice chased a LOT of people around lol👍🏼
Went to spring game when rice and Hardy were here and they held BiG track meet here and rice ran a sprint... I was thinking no way this 6-7 monster keeps up with these 5-10 speed freaks !!
He placed 3rd barley missing 2nd very impressive ..
Autographed my hat after the race one of my all time faves he was a BEAST

Yeah, because LSU has crappy facilities!

Also, we're full up, no room at the inn.

This makes me sad. I think Lovie is the perfect person to close this deal: nfl experience, celebrity, and little mature depth at cb. He would fit in well provide a stop gap with Hobbs leaving and would not have to worry about losing his position. But, the no scholarships thing may stop this for us.

Never stop recruiting!! A lot can happen as we've had are fair share of comers and goers..
I do like the idea of some experience in a huge area of need ...
See what happens

Seems like a good time and place to post the updated 2019 Fighting Illini Football Scholarship Grid!

I'm toying with the idea of sorting it as a depth chart and including walk-ons who crack the two deep. It might get too messy, though.

Check back if we have a good season though.
It's not that crazy to think we can't land him "If" we arrive a year early. Every school he's interested in according to 247's well set at the safety position. Why not drink the koolaid?

Roundtree won't count as part of the 85 scholarships if they get a medical exemption for him. Also the fact that he is not in school this semester leaves him out of the count. An exemption is not the same thing as a redshirt. It is covered by other funds that are looked upon as not part of the athletic funds.

That's what I thought would happen at some point. He still appears on the roster at fightingillini.com, but I don't know how official that is.

I like the roster balance as far as position allocation...pretty much 3 deep for all groups, looking at next year.

USC Jack Sears is entering the transfer portal (all praise to the portal).

What are thoughts on him possibly coming to UIUC?
