Illinois 59, Minnesota 51 POSTGAME

I could not disagree more. All 5 are wins for the taking. The only thing holding this team back right now will be themselves. Unless a team has a 3 pt shooter than can hit it consistently from 5 feet beyond the arc I don’t think there’s anything they can’t guard and they have about 7 different ways to score.
We have no answer for Garza and Iowa has multiple players that can hit from 5 feet beyond.

That's the one team in the league that is just a matchup nightmare for us.

Tables were reversed several times tonight. Not like Illinois wasn't getting some head scratchers calls. And, for the longest time, Illinois couldn't buy a call.
Oh yeah, totally agree. I guess I'm just saying that we were a questionable call away from possibly giving this one away.

Of course, a win is a win and a rose is a rose and according to Hemingway, a bitc..never mind. Go Illini. On to the hockers

I’m not surprised you feel that way considering your username. Get with the times. The announcers referred to this team as “flying illini” in the pregame today... were good again.

I like that this team can have anyone of 6 players step up and contribute in a serious manner.

Also, who knew minnesota had the most sour grapes fans in the big 10. I've never seen such a large collection of fans (on a message board) think the refs were biased in a game....when the winning team had more fouls....and the losing team was in the bonus substantially earlier in the second half. 🤔🤔🤔
That's saying A LOT when saying that another teams fans complain more about reffing and fouls than ours.

I have to check it out. I refuse to believe it. :)

We got a W and Feliz was the player of the game. He has a unique skill set that no one on our team does to be able to get shots in the lane using his body. He is under valued. Also it really sucks that Verdonk has been hurt all year and we never ever have sen what he is capable of. Damonte took care of what Verdonk was recruited to do at 6' 8'' 235 and being able to shoot but he has just been hurt since the day he got here.
With AG out and even with him here DW is out best option We dont have anyone with that skill set and DW did his best and rocked it tonight. Thats why we cant afford injuries because we some players that cant be completely replaced.

You treat Garza the way we did Otura. Get his cadence and Damonte and Feliz both came in for some strips. It didn't get a turnover every single time but it helped refine a recipe for defending dominant post players. I think Iowa has less players that can beat our defenders off the dribble as well. It's why Maryland has held them to 64 thus far.

We need to guard Garza without fouling too much...might have to double..but not with Wieskamps man. I think Iowa is beatable... Maryland will beat them tonight. We will have to play a lot better offensively to do it through.

I just don't like the idea of Kofi chasing shooters. Iowa, per usual, has a bunch of goofy looking guys that we all want to punch....but they shoot the lights out.

I can't stand them, but they do pose problems.

Kofi is growing up in aIllini uni. If it isn’t Andres. Next game it is Ayo or Trent. The def has been very good. Beat Is.

Someone on the bench had a boot on his foot tonight. Was that BBV?

ILL in IA

Iowa City
Damonte was great down the streatch. Huge plays in winning time. But I cant unthink the nickname that hit me in the first half, His Royal Clankness. I admit I am a bad fan, and appreciate what he does for this team in all the areas that dont show up on the stat sheet. Thank you DMFW

Sorry, I meant that some of the fouls called against Illinois were head scratchers. So, if Illinois didn't get called on a couple, it's just below average officiating and not a conspiracy. :)

BU said Kofi has been sick all week and missed practice Tuesday. I think the big fella did pretty good tonight considering. Feliz and DMW were both huge tonight. Iowa next. Probably gonna be a tough game. As long as we don't get in foul trouble with our bigs, we got a good shot at another roadkill. Go Illini!!

The offensive strategy was puzzling tonight though. Oturu has the speed and agility to cover the pick n roll pretty well, yet it seemed like we used it way more than normal. I know we haven't ran as much spread this year, but I'm pretty sure we didn't run it at all this game. Why not try it a couple times since nothing else is working? And Oturu/Demir wanted no part of Kofi/Giorgi down low. Both of those guys should have been fed all night long.
