Iowa 72, Illinois 65 POSTGAME

I put this loss squarely on Giorgi. Can't make that stupid !!! lackadaisical pass at that point of the game. All we had to is hold on to the ball. At worst take a 2 point lead down the stretch. But no, he handed Iowa the tie. I wish Brad would have kept him out the rest of the game as punishment.
I think that will put an end to the lazy backcourt passes from Giorgi. Remember last year when he used to slam the inbounds passes into the court and the guard had to wait for it to come back down? I thought for sure one of those was going to be turned over. He's been better this year, but that one today really hurt. Still, like our chances going forward.

I thought Kofi's game long inability to get a good handle on the ball was a way bigger impact than any one play from Giorgi. That one play from Giorgi was really bad with no excuse, where as Kofi had folks hacking him non-stop, but in previous games Kofi played through that and today he lost a lot of 50/50ish balls that he usually comes up with. He wasn't alone. Seemed like it was a tough ball to get a handle on.

Garza got away with murder today. If Giorgi played like him, he’d have 5 fouls in two minutes. He won’t be anything in NBA to the guy that hoped he had Sean May career.

That being said, we had our chance to win today, just had the late turnover by Giorgi, back to back Ayo missing front end of 1-1 and Trent only making 1 of 2 and Kofi and Giorgi having a rough game. The latter, can't really blame them. Hacked every time they went up. Hard to score when your wrists are being slapped every time. On to the next one.

This might seem unsportsmanlike, but this whole little league thing where the two teams have to handshake after games is silly. A highly emotional game, with highly emotional players......go to the locker room and cool off before making comments.

They're big boys....it's unnecessary.

It's a sign of respect and it's great for the game. I love seeing guys hug and shake hands after a battle. And it's a good lesson for kids watching.

Problem is we were ready to do that like grown men should do. Admit defeat, say good game, and move on. But they decide to through a full court pass for an uncontested dunk, and then yell at the crowd. All while our coach is telling his team not to foul (aka the game is over, congrats, you won). Bush league play and I'm glad our coaches stood up for our players.

Lead 59=55, score 3 rest of way until late 3, not enough. Two first half to's on out of bounds plays first half and 2 lay=ups for them on in bounds play.Little things add up. They shot 50% from 2 and 40% or so from 3. Hard to beat that.

Well a lot of people do are else they wouldn't get upset about it. It's just something you don't do at the end of the game. Just dribbling the clock out or allow us to foul them. Throwing a freaking baseball pass with 30 seconds to go and up by 8 points is not the way go. So that's the hell why we care.
Pffftttt

You can’t put it on GB... he made a mistake yes.. but Alan stepped out of bounds, Trent stepped out of bounds and ayo stepped out of bounds.. those plays have the ball back to Iowa.. collectively the unforced errors are one factor that cost us the game.. we didn’t close out well on wiescamp.. and Frederick was the X factor. I’m just as mad about dumb mistakes but there were a lot of good and bad things that happened this game.. we gotta cut out the dumb turnovers

Probably in today's society...just make it voluntary at half court. People are too amped up on a hair trigger these days. Too bad.
I dunno. The postgame line is important, IMO. Most of these guys are straight up and respect each other after battling for 40 mins. I recall some brutal '80s games at AH. Guys always embraced afterwards. Can't recall any bad blood but memory is selective, of course.

McCaffrey seems unique in impregnating his players with a certain dickishness. Don't see that in Izzo's teams, or really anywhere else in the conference right now. I just think the guy's a tool. He makes Crean look like a wise, measured, elder statesman.

Kinda glad that all happened at the end. No shortage of motivational material for the boys the second Sunday in March on Senior Day. Thank goodness for Fran's behavioral incontinence.

Well, I think we all have a new goal. Clinch the B1G title against Iowa. That would be the best revenge you could get. These next 2 games are a huge step to accomplishing that.

Disagree. Up 8 with 30 seconds, I’m taking the points every damn time.

Although the that GB pass killed our momentum. What really frustrated me even though it was very physcal and Iowa seemed to be allow to push and slap than we were. What was frustrating was how many times Kofi and GB had a chance to score down low and the ball was just bobbled. dropped and lost to miss put backs or FTs. Garza certainly gets calls others dont and not just against us. Kinda why I hate Duke and now him. WE still had chances to win

Cripes. We are whining about the dunk and the refs?? Be better and win the game or shut up. We had our chances.

We played really tough and it was a physical and emotional game. Really proud of our effort in a really difficult environment. We just didn’t make the plays at the end and they did.
