Underwood: I was extremely impressed with Baylor. The more I watch the film, the more excited I am of our team because of where Baylor is at
Underwood: Bad minute and 29 seconds. They did what a veteran team does and capitalized on our mistakes.
Underwood: "I think there were some valuable lessons that we can grow from." Pleased with freshmen. Most of our problems came on the defensive end, and they were breakdowns. Those are things we feel good we can correct.
Underwood: Trent, Ayo and Da'Monte missed just one defensive call all game. Yet, we had 13-14 blown coverages in ball-screen coverages. Most of it on young guys. That's practice, repetition and things we have to grow from.
Underwood: "With freshmen, there come learning curves and mistakes. ...But I love our freshmen, and our freshmen will be terrific." You gain experience by playing Ohio, Duke and Baylor.
Underwood: We won't face another team like Baylor at the defensive end.
Underwood: "It's scary as hell" every time they test. "Like Christmas morning" every time it comes back negative.
Underwood: Curbelo has "hardly practiced" due to concussion & rolled ankle.
Underwood: We've asked Coleman to play two positions, so his learning curve has been bigger. Eventually, he's going to be a small forward. He made me a believer the other night.
A lot of what Underwood says comes from the defensive end. Maybe he felt comfortable with him on the perimeter defensively, because we have all seen how well he does offensively from outside.I wonder why such an emphasis has been made at saying that Coleman Hawkins will be a small forward.
We went from "positionless basketball" to forcing this point home every time he is talked about.
My most obvious guess would be that that was the recruiting pitch. It seems like that was a pretty big deal.
Big game. A win here puts us at a really good spot going into conference.
When did he suffer the concussion?I hope folks realize how tough the start of the season's been on Curbelo. I saw a number of negative comments on his play, and for sure he's had mistakes, but a concussion is no small thing, missing over a week of practice, and then rolling an ankle when he did get in. Underwood has overwhelmingly positive things to say about him, and I think we're in for a much better version of him than we during his injuries.
Welcome back to the forum. I was just thinking that we haven't seen that catman beastly profile pic in a while.I hate puke
When did he suffer the concussion?
Don't have a specific date, but it looks like it happened approximately a week before the start of the season.I don't know, and couldn't find a date for it. Underwood mentioned it again in today's press conference. I was under the impression he was just getting back into full contact and practice recently, but I'm not 100% certain.
[Link]Curbelo hardly practiced this week after tweaking his ankle last Friday in Illinois’ 77-75 win against Ohio. His overall practice time was also limited in the week-plus leading up to the start of the season.
“I’m really proud of Andre Curbelo coming off a concussion,” Underwood said. “He has not had a ton of practice time being out eight days with a concussion and then tweaking his ankle.”
I did not realize there were many negative comments on Curbelo so far other than some turnovers and silly fouls. In fact, I think most folks are elated by the talent he has and some of the toughness shown.I hope folks realize how tough the start of the season's been on Curbelo. Who is that Rob guy? He can ask some of the dumbest questions I’ve ever heard.

Ooh, that was well saidRob McColley of Illini Report. He can be...polarizing.
I appreciate his work. Some of the questions can be odd for sure, and his references often go waaay over my head. But, at the same time, I'm pretty sure he's pro bono and does this just to get a press pass. He's really consistent about getting interview videos posted. He's actually a pretty good musician that released several albums before and during my time in CU, I think on Polyvinyl or another local indie label. He was a bartender at the Highdive too...not sure if that place is even open any more but I saw a lot of great concerts there in the 90s and early 00s.Rob McColley of Illini Report.
