Blackhawks '21

  • Suter and Kurashev look good
  • DeBrincat's scoring again
  • Mitchell looks very steady for his age
  • Beaudin, while not having gotten any game time yet, has gotten rave reviews from his coach over the last couple of weeks
  • This team needs another high impact young gun and we're on course to get one by losing all these games
  • Dach, and to a much lesser extent, Nylander, will be a boon to the 21-22 roster
  • So will Toews if he does return
  • If goaltending doesn't get figured out now, the org will likely have the cap space next year to snatch a guy who is at minimum an NHL starter. it's really the perfect season to pick up a goalie. There's gonna be at least one team that has a backup perform really well only to not be able to protect them in the expansion. Who knows, could be the guy we faced yesterday.
  • It's something on TV, so stop bitching and appreciate it instead of pretending you got something else to watch right now

Might as well try and trade Kane, Keith, Toews and anyone else who can fetch something. Get as much cap space and picks/prospects as possible.

Not that simple. As those guys (and Seabs) have NMCs, they'll have to waive. Never know, but I doubt it's going to happen. Plus, the only one who has real value is Kane.

Didn’t say it was going to be simple. Of course, they’ll need to waive. If they want out badly enough, they will waive. All four are in their 30s, why would they want to hang around another 5 or 6 years for a rebuild? Why not go somewhere and get another Cup or two? I would reach out to the four players and ask if they would waive and where they would like to end up. See where the conversations go. Eat some salary to get better prospects if necessary. Takes little effort to do this sort of due diligence.

Anyone ever believe in Colliton? Genuinely curious.

Silver lining: Can't imagine he survives this season, even if the majority of the losses are because of an incapable roster.

He'll be the Blackhawks coach next season, mark it down. As to whether he's a good coach, too soon to tell, IMO.

I believe he got a two year extension a couple of weeks ago.

He did. And that's on top of the current season.

Am not suggesting that he'll get a free pass to the end of the '22-23 season. He'll be judged on the prospects' development and team improvement (which should be gradual). Show me a coach who can win with their top 2 centers out (not directed at you, bdutts).

Do any of you think that they may only have a single-digit win total this season?

Not me. That said, they're not running the table, lol. If you're looking at the season strictly on W-L, it ain't gonna be pretty. It's a development season. Time to play the kids and get as many answers as possible. There should be a huge draft payoff. An incoming elite player can change the dynamic quickly. And we're getting Dach, Toews (hopefully) and Nylander back.

Totally agree. He gets this year then assuming a normal start time to 2021-2022, he’ll be evaluated as the season goes. If they still suck with no developmen, he’ll be launched before New Year.

1 point out of 8 on the trip. Detroit at home on Friday.

I don't know if I've ever seen a team give up 5+ in 4 straight games. That's defensive ineptitude at its finest

This team was only competitive last year when it got plus goaltending. It's a small sample size, but I don't see any reason to believe that this year's trio is going to be anywhere near what Crawford/Lehner was last year. I didn't watch tonight's game, but the funny thing is they don't even seem to be bleeding as many high danger chances as they have the past couple years.

I'll take your word for, but I wont like it.

I agree he's in a tough spot, I dont think there's a coach out there that can help this team to a 100 pt season, and I guess he hasn't really had the chance to prove himself to that extent either.

I will say this, the hockey revolving door of coaches seems tighter than even the NFL, so maybe keeping him will at least be refreshing.

I had one eye on the game tonight. They have given up plenty of grade A scoring chances. The bad thing for this year is that the goaltending isn't good enough to bail a struggling D out. Duncan Keith has been arguably the worst of the 6 guys who have played so far. He has been out of position often; the OT goal last night was a perfect example.

None of the three goalies has stood out in a positive way for me. Delia loses his net too much but that should be correctable, as in someone should say, "Hey Delia, don't leave the blue paint!". Can't rotate three goalies so one of Delia and Lankinen should be moved to taxi squad and let the Subban and the other battle it out to see who gets the most starts.

Yeah, Keith has been poor. Clinging to the fact that he had a similar start last year and was able to right the ship (not saying he's an elite #1, he clearly has slipped). Murphy was mediocre, at best, too.

JC has repeatedly stated that it's an open contest for #1G. Lankinen will stay on the taxi squad all season, most likely, as he doesn't have to clear waivers. WRT drawing in, it doesn't matter if a guy is on the active roster or taxi squad. And, yes, to your point, goalkeeping has been rather poor.

Totally agree on Delia. I generally like goaltenders to play a "quiet" game - get to the right spot quickly with an efficiency of movement - as it leads to fewer mistakes and wide open nets. He's definitely not playing a quiet game right now. He does make a lot of saves, so hopefully he can calm down and put it together.

If you recall the latter half of Q's last full year, when Crow got hurt and the goaltending was a hot mess, Keith was almost guaranteed to cough up at least one pizza to the slot each game. I don't want to say he was in full on IDGAF mode, but he certainly didn't seem careful managing the puck in our zone. If he loses interest early this year it could get very ugly. I'm hoping we right the ship quickly in this set against Detroit.
