Illinois's next six scheduled games are: at Minnesota (Saturday), at Michigan State (Feb. 23), vs. Nebraska (Feb. 25), at Wisconsin (Feb. 27), at Michigan (March 2) and at Ohio State (March 6).

THIS IS THE NCAA TOURNAMENT.. This is what a schedule in there would look like. We are going to do this 3 times.. first one for the Reg Conference Champ. 2nd time will be the BIG tournament the 3rd will be for the NCAA.. I think we take 2 out of 3.. I'll let you be the judge. What 2 out of 3 do you think we take?

Hopefully this stretch and the NCAA tournament. The ones that matter!

Im not sure this team is consistant enough to win any of those 3, but if they are going to start, now is the time to do it. Taking care of the ball is this team's biggest problem. This is something that can be fixed with just less carelessness

This is considerably harder than either the conference tournament or the NCAA tournament.

The Big10 "leadership" really boggles the mind. Really shows how much clout IL currently has in the league. One would think the league would want to protect one of its own who currently sits at #5 in the nation and a consensus 2 seed in the tournament. Forcing us to play a game every 2 days for two weeks then the Big10 tournament is a recipe for dropping a couple (hopefully not more) seeds. I would hope Whitman is none too happy about how this whole situation has been handled and is letting it be known. After the start of the football season fiasco, how does Kevin Warren keep his job? I know the COVID situation has been difficult, but this is clearly not equitable to allow Michigan to basically set their own schedule while forcing IL to play an NBA schedule before the tournament in a year they have a great opportunity to make some noise. I hope the point is moot and we make noise in the tournament despite the schedule. Goodness knows we should be prepared for it. Just hope we are not too worn down by then.

6 games in two weeks. 5 on the road.

We'd miss a ton of classes. Let's also look at the mental health standpoint. This is our guys' team, their schedule and their college experience. Would they want to play 11 games in 22 days? And then from a health standpoint, I'm not sure if it would be smart because of the long layoff. Rushing and playing that many games in a short amount of time doesn't give the human body time to recover.

“At the end of the day, we're not machines. We are humans. That's not the type of pressure that I want to put on my student-athletes at this time.

Hey.. I think that locks us into a grove.. We are going for the double bye in the BIG.. so that will give us rest. If we win out.. We could be a #1 seed and a BIG reg Champ.. that is what we are looking at.. Paying Ohio State for it all in the last game of the season.

Hey..I'm a huge Illini fan but if we win out that is gonna be one of the greatest accomplishments that I have seen as a 40+ year fan of the program and would certainly cement a 1 seed, lol. But here's to hoping! I'd be good with that outcome for sure.

A Michigan fan, no doubt.

100% my train of thought here too. This is beyond egregious to our STUDENT athletes. I can’t imagine keeping up with classes during a gauntlet like this.

Michigan certainly cowards, but that home game vs Nebraska should be a tune-up opportunity for us and chance to get the bench some work and game action.

It’s about time they stomp at team like that and get guys like Hawkins and Curbello some low pressure minutes to work on a few things.

The advantage with MI playing fewer games is if both teams have 3 losses Illini are clear champs, no tie.

#38
Those are 3 easy opponents though. So it's not an advantage for them to not play them

It is an advantage. No game is easy in the B1G and not having to play them means 120 minutes of intense action you don’t have to prepare for, travel to (for 2 games) and execute.

You never know when you’re gonna drop one...so not having to play potential trap games is a major benefit as long as you’re already in the lead.

We can't avoid the upcoming gauntlet of road games. But that Nebraska home game sticks out like a sore thumb. Remove it and we have a significantly more normal looking schedule from a days-between-games standpoint. If it were me, I would cancel that game and tell everyone it is for the mental health and well-being of our student athletes. The league office has already shown they won't step in to force teams to play games. If there's a double standard, make them implement it so they can be fairly criticized for it.

We type so much about beach houses that the IL autocorrect assumes bench=beach, lol.

I got on here because after seeing the schedule it seemed as if we are now actually in position to win the BIG and all I see is conspiracy theories and hand wringing. Come on folks.

We will be plenty rested for the BIG tourney and the NCAA. Vastly easier schedule before the showdown against Michigan. Only thing that makes our schedule 'tougher'(which it is not) is the Nebraska rematch 2 nights after MSU game. We have had multiple stretches of the season with 5/6/7 day layoffs. I've coached many a team that has 3 games in a row. This is not ideal for sure but let's go get it. We now have got the opportunity, and betting the boys are crazy fired up for this. Minny is fighting for their lives today, we blew them out first time around, they aren't gonna give an inch. BIG is awesome this year.

Good point on Minnesota. They are teetering on the edge of collapse. A win today would make them a tourney lock

If we lose 3 or 4 of those 6 games, we will not be a 2 seed. And maybe not a 3 seed. It's a load of crap that Michigan got to do this.
Completely agree. So don't lose 3 or 4 of those 6 games. Bear down and get it done.

Yes we already played Nebraska too 100% agree many other teams are missing games I think it’s fine if we don’t play a team we already played. Because of all the traveling.

If we lose 3, I think we still have a solid chance at a 2 seed.

That would put us at 14-6 in the most competitive league in college basketball history (since KenPom has begun tracking it). Likely with a top 3 finish in that league.

Likely outcomes:

0 losses - 1 seed
1 loss - 1 or 2 seed.
2 losses - 2 seed.
3 losses - 2 or 3 seed.
4 losses - 3 or 4 seed.

This brutal of a schedule down the stretch really magnified the importance of the upcoming Minnesota game.
