It's the ghost of Bobby Knight.
Bingo. Same problem Michigan has in football: the long tail of a cult of personality that, in IU's case, stretches 20 years at this point, and in Michigan's, stretches more than 30. It took Ohio State more than 20 years to get over the Woody Hayes syndrome.

It was and is a serious mind-f&#k for each program.

Isn't Archie's buyout over a certain number of years instead of lump sum ?????....thought I read that somewhere...

I've been around here long enough to see things like that expressed legitimately.
Yea I get it.....that scenario would raise a lot of eyebrows and cause ncaa watch dogs (if there is such a thing) to take up residence in Bloomington

Billy Donovan isn't leaving the Bulls to coach at IU either. Many IU fans are out of their minds.
Hope springs eternal. Although I loathe that program with every fiber of my being, I have compassion for them in this situation. I recall this time of year in 2017 and, of course, last fall after football season.

But ur right. They all seem to have the divine right of kings mentality about their program. Worked well in the 17th C. Not so much today.

There was a small but real group of Illini fans who seemed to legitimately want to hire him despite sanctions and obvious character issues because they were so desperate to reach the mountain top again. I am glad it didn't have to come to that.

In fairness, our fanbase was suggested some pretty wacky and unrealistic stuff, too, and we have less "history" than them.

Does anyone remember back when we fired Weber and a certain group of posters were convinced we could lure Self back to "finish what he started" since he had already accomplished everything at KU? 🤦‍♂️

Is Crean IU’s Zook?

Didn’t he win multiple conference titles with them? That’s got to be sounding pretty good right now.

I still wonder that year he had Oladipo, Zeller, Hulls etc. if they don’t draw Cuse in their bracket and make a run to the final 4, I wonder if he is still there. That was a phenomenal team.
