Steve Prohm out at Iowa State.

I wasn't a big fan of Archie Miller's hire by IU. But I thought Prohm was going to be awesome. I remember souring on Groce about that time and wishing we could pick up Prohm.

Guy went from 23 wins in '19 to 2 this year. Is that some sort of record?

Borzello had a list of coaches for the IU job, some long shots and some realistic possibilities. Here's who he had:

Pipe-dream names
-Brad Stevens
-Chris Beard
-Scott Drew

Realistic candidates
-John Beilein
-Eric Musselman
-Nate Oats
-Thad Matta
-Porter Moser
-Mark Pope

IU alum
-Calbert Cheaney (Pacers assistant)
-Dane Fife

I think Iowa is on the downslide after Garza leaves, Wisconsin appears in trouble after their Sr class leaves this year or next, Archie out at Indiana and Pitino at Mn. This leaves the door wide open for ILL to reclaim the top of the B1G and stay there for at least a few years.
The Murray brothers, mccafferys, Frederick. Weiskamp maybe? Toussaint? They have some pieces. They’ll be solid.

It’s going to be tough stepping up to power 5 job. I would think the coach would have to be in the college game. Dealing with virtual stuff/ recruiting.
New coaches will be praying for summer aau.

beliema wasn’t in college at this time, but recruiting class was pretty much settled. He has defied expectations, so it can be done.

Is there a fanbase in this country that is more in denial and more delusional than the Hoosier faithful. They have only made the Dance (a low bar at that) in 10 of the last 21 years since Knight left and after all that, "this will be a splash" hire. GMAB.
This is just as easily applied to Illini fans.

... or is my meter broken?

Pitino would probably not be a candidate, but just in case, I did some investigating. There is a club in Bloomington called Night Moves, all boxes checked if they wish to pursue him.

In college basketball? No. In other sports? yes

Some of it, yes. The decade+ of lows mixed with unsustained successes are similar, and neither fanbase seems willing to acknowledge that the time lost can never truly be made up. However...

We Illinois fanatics have been consistently unrealistic about the timeline of where our program COULD be.

Many vocal Indiana fans are delusional because of where they presume their program SHOULD be.

One fanbase senses greatness to be an inevitable brass ring, the other feels it as inherent but repressed. I figure the latter comes natural to any team with old banners. Who knows how our leadership would have steered Illini expectations had the '80s and '00s panned out. For deep red Hoosierland, it's gonna be a long time before their unfortunate cultural mindset is beaten out of them.

I feel like the Illini fans during the Groce era were between the self-deprecating hopefulness of the Goemaw.com crowd and the narcissistic delusions of the Hoosier fans.

Now that this fan base has been reunited with success its been a very respectful pride that is on display. Biggy ups to everyone.

Nice article here with buyout numbers and annual compensation, graphs and tables. Says BU has highest annual compensation in BIG and 10 mill buyout. Great on both fronts.

apparently Archie has an offset clause. Did see it mentioned in an article but no details.

With regards to Antigua. He played at Pitt. Capel is about 1 more bad year away from being fired. He would be a good option there and may be waiting for something like that. DePaul is a difficult job, and having already failed at his first HC opportunity, he may look for a better fit. Hypothetically the Pitt job may be difficult to get, as the Miller boys will probably both be available and both are from that area, with Sean playing there.

If I'm DePaul, the 2 guys on my list are Gates and Moser and I'd choose Gates. Really those 2 names could also make sense at Minnesota and Iowa State as well.

So we should be a destination/dream job with the money we're throwing at BU....
