I won't get too low or high here. There's another SG not previously discussed on here that could replace him. I don't know if he's going to pull the trigger on transferring but we'll see.
Could it be Shannon?

What? AM is a high major player. We can hate on him all we want after this but he is a high major talent
I mean a good P6 school. I doubt he's going to a ranked team next year. He left one he was starting at for seemingly no reason after a good but not fantastic season. If he wants more playing time he'd probably have to downgrade a little.

Wait to see what happens in a couple of weeks.
My experience as an Illini fan has taught me that usually what happens in a couple of weeks is another swift kick to the groin. So I assume something like Curbelo transferring...

Can we stop with the speculation about if it's a parent, who's in his ear, if he told the staff, etc?

If it's not a joke, let him go and stop trying to knock the 19 year old kid down to make yourself feel better. He's a talent and it's unfortunate he feels inclined to leave, but I can't imagine it was an easy choice to make (if he really is leaving). If he feels he can have more success and a better path forward elsewhere, all the power to him. BU and the staff will make it work, we won't be the only team blind sided by a transfer.

Players transfer for 2 reasons

A minority transfer because the season just ending didn't turn out the way they hoped. I'm a one and done, I thought I was going to be the featured player, I know I am elite because my mom/dad keep telling me so, my street agents tell me I wasn't being utilized properly, college coaches are mean.

A majority transfer because they look into the future and they don't like what they are seeing. Two years ago on the day before practice started Samba Kane gushed about the muscle he had put on and that he could hardly wait. 24 hours later he faced Kofi, 24 hours after that he transferred.

Coaches today love the Baylor look, 4 players between 6'3 and 6'8 who can shoot the 3 or take the ball to the basket, tall enough to switch screens, plus one rim protector. AM did some of that but not all.

3 letters....MOM
Reminds me of the old days of screaming AAU moms. Better get used to this gang. Kids move neighborhoods in middle school to get on teams they want to be on. This is now all part of their mindset. Grass is always greener somewhere else.

I think Big Ten BB was a wakeup call for AM. He could not be a dominant scorer at will like he was at the HS level when he was named Mr. Basketball. Don't think he accepted being a role player on a team with a strong emphasis on defense. Someone (family or handlers) convinced him his talents were not being properly utilized at UI. Probably needs to undergo some maturing, but I appreciate his contribution to this year's team and wish him well.

Ugh. Never fun to see this. But other than the smooth lefty shot for an open 3 and a nice pull up jumper from the elbow, I didn't see a whole lot of offensive prowess in terms of scoring, especially when anyone keyed in on him. Started having some success driving more toward the end of the season but didn't seem to get up to the rim easily when finishing in traffic, often shooting low after contact. Very curious to see if he has more success elsewhere but also happy to welcome another competitor who wants to be on the team.

I guess AM leaving pretty much guarantees that Damonte is not coming back next year. I don’t see Miller leaving if Damonte was staying.

Really unfortunate, but totally Illinois sports. Lose in the second round to a huge underdog as the overall 2 seed, then this news....one step forward two steps back. Constant gut punches for Illini sports fans. Will it ever end?

As far as Miller, really hope he reconsiders and ends up coming back. Given that the staff stuck with him throughout the season, leaving him in the starting lineup when he really had no business being in it for most of the year and constantly supporting him and defending him in post game, it would be hugely disappointing for him to turn around and leave.

I expect he will end up at Mich, having moderate success but torching IL every time we play them the next 3 years.

This is a blow. Puts extra pressure on spring recruiting and/or the portal.
So much to replace next year. Dang.
