... his role was to be 3 & D player.
This is something else I don’t get. The nba these days is all about roles. 3 and d wings are in particular demand. You become an elite 3 and d wing someone in the nba will pay you.

Unless you’re a superstar, which at this point seems unlikely for Adam. 3 and D should be what he focuses on if he wants to make the nba.

Damn this one legit hurts, at least personally. I’ve followed Adam since he was a high school freshman and absolutely loved his game. Was worried blue bloods would get him but he stayed home. Then that first game...had kind of a rough year but I was really proud of his progress towards the end of the year. Thought him and Curbelo would be a perfect duo next year. I’m sad man.
Though I will say his Ace Wolf persona is about the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen. And the drama with Michigan after he committed should have been a sign...oh well, hope the staff can fill this hole well.
I loved that kid...great attitude, worked and got better, really got tough on D and was a bright spot in many games including last against Loyola. A bright future.

For Ace...Best of luck and many will always consider you an Illini forever!

I think alot of people are underestimating how close Ace was with Damonte and how big of a part that is playing. I know from previous posts that the 2 families are very close. With Ayo departing along with DWill I could see where he could want a fresh start. We are all also clueless to whats going down in the transfer in situation. Let the young man carve his own path, its his right no matter our opinions.

I always think it's funny when people rationalize "they knew this would happen" because of x, y, z. "I knew he'd transfer because he looked upset that one game!"

Just because a player ended up doing what you think they might doesn't mean you're right. It's just confirmation bias

... i thought he played like a winner in our game against Loyola / Chicago, like he wanted it, and i really believe he wouldve taken over next year. going to miss this kid - i was looking forward to his arrival for so long

Me too. You could argue Adam Miller is the best player we've ever had that transferred out. Reminds me of Ryan Blackwell situation, although Miller had lot better freshman season than Blackwell did. This just sucks on all levels.

If we were only losing Adam, but bringing back the rest of the guys you rationalize it. But Underwood is going to have to rebuild this entire thing overnight. We're most likely losing 5 of our top 6 guys (Ayo, Kofi, Adam, Trent, Damonte). That was the entire starting 5 for half the season until Grandison got in there. I don't think we've ever had to replace an entire starting 5 in one offseason. I think Curbelo is going to be a great player, but it's going to be very difficult to even build chemistry for the team if we bring in a bunch of random dudes at least quickly.

Don’t understand why everyone is saying Miller couldn’t be “the guy” because of curbelo. They would both have starting roles and have equal opportunity to get better and be “the guy”. Both have to get better if they want to make the NBA anyways.

I wish Adam all the best!!! I'm surprised, but I don't know the reasons, what went on in the locker room, what it was like playing in this COVID year, etc.

Last comment on this: There doesn't always have to be a reason. At that age, everyone's in your ear and all it takes is getting the wrong advice. People might say a few things that play on your ego and bang. Maybe it ends up being a good decision for him? Maybe a bad. Time will tell. I'm curious to see where he lands

By "the guy," I'm guessing people mean the primary ballhandler. And if that's what Miller wants, he's probably correct that he would struggle to supplant Curbelo from that position on our team. Reminds me of the rumors about Alan Griffin wanting to go somewhere else to have the opportunity to play PG.

When do we hear that Underwood is interviewing for the NC job? Kidding....I think.
Miller is a good player and will be missed but I have full confidence that this staff can replace him. Let these kids go out and do what they think is best for them. I am sure the staff would rather have a player leave than be upset with their role and a distraction to the team. It will be interesting to see how he develops. I don’t see a guy who is going to play at the next level but what do I know.

Curbelo simply outplayed him, like Frazier outplayed M.Smith. No hard feelings with Adam even if he stays in conference. I wish him the best, it was a really special season with him here. Thanks for that year Adam.

Is he for sure gone he can still come back.
In theory, yes, he could come back. But from the wording of Underwood's statement I took it as 'You were welcome to stay, but if you don't like it here don't let the door hit you on the way out.'. I could be wrong, of course.

BOOM! Feed my ego.
See ya. Onward and upward. How many Illini transfer have actually moved on to bigger and better things?

Meh. I'd meltdown if Curbelo transferred. He's the guy we couldn't possibly replace. We can find another guy that defends well and shoots 34% from 3.

I just saw this....My first reaction was , wow, is this an April Fools joke....??

My second reaction was about his room mate , Mr. Curbelo.....???

College BB is a rudderless ship on an ocean of $$$$, promise and lies , with NO loyalty to a program or state institution.....NCAA can't police their members and create more messes than solve any problems.....

If he wants to leave , so be it.......

Next man up.......

Some people on Reddit were saying it has a lot to do with family drama. They didn’t like the role he was put in. And had a huge issue when Ayo’s family got more tickets to the tournament.
