He went to a better school. There is no "better" option for us. We have 2 starting positions at Guard that are there for the taking. Nimari and Franklin chose to go to better schools. We will get some good 3 star or maybe 4 star transfers but we aren't going to land top tier talent from the portal. Burnett, Franklin, TyTy, Bryce Hamilton, were never coming here.
I'm always impressed with people's short-term memory of the top recruits we've landed over the last few years
Last year: Curbelo, Miller
Year before: Kofi
Year before: Ayo

I could include Omar Payne (Former top 50), but I won't since you can argue he's less proven. I'm just as anxious to get some immediate impact talent, but the hyperboles are a bit much.

I read or heard a few days ago Franklin saying he didn't want to transfer to another BI0 school because he didn't want to play his old teammates several times a year.
Then why waste our time going after him. I don't buy it.

He’s did this for every offer.

The orange koolaid posters I can handle but the sky is falling posters are the worst. I appreciate the posters falling somewhere in the middle. We are a Podz and transfer commitment away from having a really good class. There are also wildcards like TyTy.
Podz is no guarantee.

No one is a guarantee.
Even the ones the insiders tell us are going to announce for us soon. It doesn't seem to work that way

Keep the faith guys. I know it sucks right now, it has been a brutal month. We had a dream run through two months ended by a state school, and we have missed on some recruits. I can promise y'all we will be fine. We will have a younger team next year, but we are building for the future and have tons of young talent. Some of our incoming guys are going to suprise a lot of people. We are also a Kofi announcement away from being at the top of the big ten again.

I remain fairly confident Kofi is coming back. No reputable site has him even getting drafted and we all know his deficiencies, all of which can be remedied with hard work and a good coaching staff.
I think Kofi’s situation is closer to Giorgi’s than Ayo’s. He’s a relatively older international player. He could make a lot even if he never makes the NBA.

How is Alabama hoops better than Illinois? C'mon now.
I haven’t figured out the surge of Alabama basketball either. Avery Johnson started getting some guys there and couldn’t do much. But Oats has one year to build and gets them 26-7 with a 2 seed and has them ready to be a perennial top team. Idk how some of these guys immediately turn things around at schools and we can’t sustain any success after we have some. (See post 2005 Illini basketball) And it’s take Underwood years and many bumps along the way to get to this point and yet to be seen if it’s can be sustained.

If we don’t get a transfer guard or another 21 guard recruit, is a Storr reclass to 21 a possibility with immediate playing time?

Yea, but Kofi has a legitimate shot at being a NPOY candidate. He'll undoubtedly be one of the main faces of college basketball next year. That's a pretty big difference compared to Giorgi. That sort of buzz and attention definitely makes that NBA path possible.

Lville what are you hearing on Podz and Tre Mitchell? Is the staff still talking to Adam Miller or has that ship sailed?

I would like to remind the “sky is falling” folks that this staff has consistently been able to coach players up.
There is much more talent on the back of this bench than there was two years ago. We may take a step back before we take another step forward, but it’s pretty far from square 1 even in the worst case scenario.
I think we will have an all conference PG next year. There is no more important position in college basketball.
The freshmen were are bringing in have a great chance at helping immediately. The guys that have been here have an even better chance of making a jump.
Let’s be real. If Kofi moves on, we will be pretty far from a popular national contender. It doesn’t mean we will be irrelevant. I think we will still punch a ticket to the dance. If we do... who knows?
Underdogs can have a lot of fun.

Oats admits that he did his thing this year ...SEC champ, NCOY, etc with AJ' s recruits.

I'm sure this will have me labelled as one of the "sky is falling" crew, but I find it a little disappointing that one of the insiders who was talking just a couple weeks ago about how we're going to reload with all this talent and compete again next year is now talking about building for the future. I think it's possible to feel good about the future of the program and also feel disappointed about the lost opportunity. Depending on where the chips fall this team could be very good next year, or could miss the tourney. That's not a terrible place to be in, but I also don't think it's where we imagined we'd be a few weeks ago.
