Chester Frazier joins Illinois coaching staff

Just imagine what it would be like to be a highly recruited high school BB player. You think maybe you're gonna make it to the NBA someday. Then you show up for your first collegiate practice and you can't score in practice because one of your coaches plays strong D. Humbling.

The last time I was at Assembly Hall (aka SFC) I watched Chester in action. I referred to him as "Chet the Jet" (honoring Chet Walker). Glad, happy Chester is on board . It just seems right. Gut feeling. GO ILLLINOISANS!

The old saying is, "Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach." In other words, being a good coach does not depend on being a good player. Good players just play and have no idea how they do it. Everyone here has been on the bandwagon for ex-Illini like Augustine and Hamilton. We don't have time to teach former players how to coach and recruit. Since we want to be at the top level, we need a coaching hire that is top level regardless of what color uniform he used to wear.
Ya well ask parents who have had to help their kids with remote learning think that is still true. Sorry off topic but I hate that saying.

Chester has been a warrior for the Illini. I remember him playing with a bad ankle during the tournament. He was out there when some of our players today would have been on the bench feeling sorry for themselves.
edited for accuracy:
"when some of Miznoz's players today would have been on the bench feeling sorry for themselves."

I have to second this as a teacher. Knowing a subject so well that you can explain it inside and out in multiple ways to students and write curriculum is no joke.
Yep my Dad used to say that all the time and I'd think to myself, "or they become a friggin' knowitall critic like you Dad." Never said it to his face because he like to punch me.

I think Chet is young enough that he can SHOW our guards all kinds of good stuff.

"No, THIS is the way you do it. Drive to the basket and score like this, it'll work better with you because you are taller than me." etc. etc.

"what? you're complaining about a stupid treadmill? Jeeeshh"

Imagine if we brought Feliz back in some capacity (maybe fill Alexander's role if he's promoted). The coaches would win every practice!

I'm a little late to the party, but alright, alright, alright! Love this hire! Welcome home Coach Frazier!

What about Dee Brown or Deron Williams? Deon Thomas? Are any of those guys into coaching other than Dee Brown? He's from Chicago and can make in roads with the recruits there I'd believe... Interested in feedback... Talk to me loyalists!
