2020-21 Illini Men's Golf

I was going to go to the Palmer Cup at Rich Harvest Farms but I reviewed the website and it had the following: the 2021 Arnold Palmer Cup will not be open to the general public. I don't know if they are asking for volunteers.

Sorry for above glitch.

All I want to say right now is that Illini aren't playing head-to-head against Oklahoma State or any other team. Karsten Creek is the opponent.

It's a shame that the NCAA has given the Okies the added advantage of playing at home. There is no greater home court advantage in all of collegiate sports than in golf. Does anyone know if fans will be allowed? Perhaps Illinois will be able to host at the renovated Stone Creek course in the near future.

Too bad Illini women aren't going to NCAA championship, but they made it to a regional. Not every school does that.

Illini men: just get out of Stillwater in the top six. It can be done. So it is written here; so it shall be done.

Incidentally, NIU nearly got an auto berth into a regional; and Illinois Wesleyan (home of Jack Sikma, whom Illini recruited) is leading Division III championship as I write this. IWU women aren''t doing as well.

College golf in Illinois is doing fine. (I don't even consider Northwestern, never will).

Do you know why Siyan Chen and Kornkamol Sukaree didn't compete this year? They would have been two of our better players.

I'm not an insider, seriously. Don't know. Will look into it.

But for you who follow Illini women's golf, I hope there's another Illini tourney at Medinah this fall. I volunteered the last two (the only way a peasant like me could get on the joint.) Of course, covid screwed up everything in 2020.

I suspect Chen and Sukaree didn't return because of covid - travel restrictions, wanting to get back home. etc. Don't know. But I wish them and their families the best of luck and great health. All of us, Amen.

I checked Illini women golf news releases. No mention of why Chen and Sukaree left the program. At least I didn't find the news.

Illinois Wesleyan looks like it's gonna be national champeen barring a total collapse over the last few holes. Don't think that's gonna happen.

GO ILLINI MEN!

The preview on the Illinois website didn't know that they were playing 36 on day 1 either....:

TOURNAMENT FORMAT
The 54-hole tournament will be played over three days, Monday-Wednesday, with 18 holes slated for each day. The low four scores will count towards the team score in each round. The top five teams, and the low individual not on one of those teams, will advance to the NCAA Championship.

great 1st round for the boys however. Right now I believe a 5 stroke lead on 6th place, which is the all we need to do to advance, top 5.

Here is another description of the regionals, I am very confused, is there pending weather they are trying to work around, I do believe the format was originally for 3 days of 18 I believe.

"The path to the 2021 NCAA DI Men's Golf Championship starts Monday with the first of three consecutive days of regional competition. There are six, 54-hole regional tournaments, which will conclude Wednesday, May 19, when the top five teams and the top individual not on one of those teams will advance to the DI Men's Golf Championship." this is from CBS website

I think you nailed it. Pretty good chance of storms the next two days. Play as many as you can today.

this is a big advantage for Illinois who are playing the best today. when you are on top you want to get as much in as possible, because one day to the next can be a drastic difference. They are stretch it out quite a bit right now. fantastic work.

I'm late to the game, and just starting to follow now.

Great info - thanks for sharing everyone!

I see us currently leading the pack at -7 (an 11 shot lead over 6th place Sam Houston). Looks like we're -5 in the second round so far, with a ton of holes yet to play. A great day for Illini Golf so far!!!

its top 5 that advance, but yeah 10 up over 6th place little rock, northwestern is +1 but not done with 1st round so they are in the top 5 currently.
