Maybe he wants to get out of his backyard.
I think this is often a bigger thing than we give it credit for being. Iowa isn’t where I’d pick to study abroad, but its not easy for teens to break out of that high school thinking of “this will be a lot for fun if my parents never know about it” mode. If you parents can’t travel that far, cheer for me on Zoom!

100%. For kids from the Chicago area, CU is far enough away from home (for the vast majority). For kids near CU, not so much.

Speaking to the importance of getting Austin Brown. Illinois has only received one commitment that was ranked in the top-6 in the State of Illinois since the end of Zook's run (2012): Gabe Megginson (4th). Pearl was 6th by 247 rankings only (not composite) and Aaron Bailey was 6th right when Zook was canned. Brown would break that cycle.

Austin Brown would be an amazing get for this staff and restart our IL recruiting and hopefully drive more top in state recruits to the flagship school of the state.

If reported 40 time is close to accurate I like the pickup. Would think Bostick is probably going to Iowa if we have Pugh, Beatty and Hollins at WR but who knows

Yeah, I think staff was all in on Pugh (not saying they didn't want Bostick). And when he committed, the die was pretty much cast. Pretty similar players.

Hollins: McDonald knows what he's doing, so am giving him the benefit of the doubt. Kids slip through the cracks every year. This year, even more so. Especially, kids from rural backwaters.

Did you see his quote about McDonald in the Werner article? They are definitely using McDonald’s past NFL successes as a recruiting tool.

"I feel like I'm going to be good because he's put 27 kids in the NFL, and I'm just going to listen to him and whatever he tells me to do I'm going to do because he did it before.”

The 247 article on his commitment made it sound like he also played QB and really hadn’t played that much WR. If I read that right it could definitely be a reason for him flying under radar.
