The form on his free throws was, for the most part, very good. He just needs repeated practice, practice and practice which will breed confidence.
There was an excellent NBA scouting report that shows his shooting form (and free throw form) and where he needs to improve. It was hard to see during the season because of the typical camera angle during free throws (and because he took so few jump shots), but Kofi shoots over his left shoulder, a la Lonzo Ball. His release and follow through are ok, and that is what we mostly see when he shoots free throws, but he is actually holding the ball on the wrong side of his body, resulting in blocked vision and side spin. I thought he had a hitch in his motion. A little unnatural pause before he released the ball. Didn’t do it all the time and sometimes it went in anyway. I haven't seen that video. If you have the link I’d love to see it.
It was shared in the NBA Draft thread by another poster, but I'll leave the link here, too.

Kofi NBA Draft Stock Break Down

I think the hitch you're talking about is the fact that he doesn't bend his knees enough when shooting from the line. The video describes it as his upper and lower halves not being connected, which seems about right to me.

It's a really good break down of his draft potential and things that he can work on to improve.

Edit: I see someone beat me to reposting it. Y'all are too quick for me 😂

Just trying to reconcile the following:

FSU basketball is a top notch program, but the fan base is virtually non-existent. There is almost no buzz surrounding a returning All-American that just named them in his top 3! 🤔

I have two close friends who are FSU alum and follow both football and basketball. They had no idea when I sent them his final 3. They didn’t even know Kofi was potentially transferring.

Kind of crazy too because not only are they a really good program, they play a super exciting brand of basketball. And bring in awesome athletes and have had a lot of NBA players recently.

Steven Adams is NOT a 3 point threat. He has shot 13 for his career, only 3 each of the past two years (and only made 1 of those 13.) The comparison to Kofi is a good one, including struggling on FTs. If Kofi can get to a couple assists/game, and be a bit better rim protector, I think he has an NBA career.

I mean Nick Collison had a long career. Not similar play styles but never felt he did anything great.

I don’t know how much I can actually put into he might end up at FSU. With Kentucky, he has OA and Chin. At Illinois, he has all his teammates, BU, GA and Fletch. There is no one to connect him with FSU.
It is hard not to get your hopes up, but with Kentucky reportedly out, only Illinois really makes sense.

Maybe they are hiring his uncle as an ac.

I saw a supposed Kentucky Insider on Bleacher Report saying that Kofi to Kentucky has been in the works for months and this NIL stuff and decision making time etc is all to distract from a potential tampering case. I hope that's not true and I have no idea if this guy is even remotely honest and reliable.

On the free throw stuff specifically… it’s kind of befuddling. This seems to be a very coordinated kid (see soccer ball skills). This feels like either the staff decided to focus on other things in his development or Kofi decided to focus other things in his development. I know he has only ~5 years of hoops experience but free throw fundamentals seems like something that should have been a focus long ago for a big man. Am I missing something on this?

I have a feeling he was experiencing in high school what we saw early on in his Big Ten career. He was so much bigger that either kids wouldn't challenge him or refs wouldn't call the foul. I wonder if he just never got to the line often enough for coaches to worry about it.

I hate to be the guy that brings up the elephant in the room, but has the (ahem) issue of the selling his team gear been resolved?
Or is this another hurdle we are going to have to get over and wait for a final decision on?

do we know what time his announcement is? I'd like to have a stopwatch ready for how quickly the "way too early pre-season top 25" and bracketology 21-22 changes.
I would like to know as well. It's uncomfortable wearing the cup all day. Being able to insert it 30 minutes before the announcement would be much more bearable.

Todd Gurley got a 3 game suspension back in the old days, wayyyy pre NIL. If anything he might have to sit the first game or 2 but it won't be anything severe if he's given a punishment

Obviously nothing is guaranteed until Friday, but has illinois ever had back to back first team all-americans? Feel like that would be a very strong possibility if Kofi returns
