This could be a very good year as coach has a lot of talented pieces to arrange; some vets, fresh faces, lotta guards.
Kofi of course.
It will be interesting to see how starters / rotations / combinations play out.

I'm optimistic.

Followed Loyalty for many years, never a big contributor, but I love the passion and humor of so many here. I just watched Brad's interview and It kind of hit me that he probably has never in his coaching career had more talent that he has this year. Please don't get me wrong I know last year was what we all wanted except for the last game. I'm just thinking this year we may really find out how good of a coach he is. This team has some amazing ( elite ) players that may be very under rated in college basketball. How he uses each talent will tell a lot about him. Listening to him as an Illini fan I love him. This year may put him on the big time Map.

Thank you for contributing and please continue to do so, the more voices the better.

Now off to go view this elite presser.

I always find the juxtaposition of Underwood being the angriest man alive on the sidelines and then giving relentless over-the-top praise of every single player whenever you put a microphone in front of him amusing.
In the podcast Tyler was on they asked him about his dad vs coach personality. He said people would be surprised that he’s actually a pretty laid back person because of how intense he is on the sidelines.

Feeling like Grandison isn’t getting enough hype as someone who could arguably be our biggest X-factor. Would love to see him get more shots this season — he was 40/50/90 last year on low volume. Also a good defender and rebounder who knows the system + fills a crucial gap at the 4 which is probably our weakest position. Love hearing the hype around the new guys and Hutch, but Jake really got better towards the end of last season and more than deserves as much playing time as anyone else on the wing. Excited to see how he’s utilized this year.

Agree...He was really good playing high post last year. Good decisions and eye for the open man

Question for whoever may know - If Grandison and Hutcherson were Juniors last season and if everyone gets an extra year of eligibility because of Covid why would they not still be considered Juniors this year? (Or was it two years ago that everyone was granted an extra year?)

Wait, am I paying the toll for the road in front of me or the road behind me?

For simplicity, everyone talks about players ignoring the covid year, with the understanding that those players can take an "extra" senior season.

Both Hutcherson and Grandison have two years of eligibility left. It’s unlikely Grandison will play more than one more season, though.
