Wisconsin 24, Illinois 0 Postgame

Please don't shoot me down when I suggest this but when we realized we couldn't block or throw a completed pass what was wrong with throwing out the playbook and inserting IW back in at QB and just run a bunch of option stuff and slow down the rush and lock up the linebackers to open up some space? We didn't learn anything new about this game. We are deficient in interior line play and that is just the sad fact of the matter.

I do think it’s fair to critique the game plan to a point. But we couldn’t run the ball against Wisconsin. Almost no one can. We actually had some receivers open but Sitkowski couldn’t find them at all. I don’t recall ever seeing a qb so consistently off target. Would have liked to have seen what the walk on or even Robinson could have done. Sitkowski didn’t even give the receivers a chance.

My 2 cents. A lot to work on obviously, but if don’t have a qb who can even put it close to the receivers makes calling a game really challenging
I thought our only chance was to hit them with play action on the first play, and make them second guess what they expected we would do: try to run the ball. Good idea, I thought, it just didn't work.

I guess we can probably drop the quotations when we refer to the "experts" who picked us to finish in last place

I'm thinking Matt Robinson has proven he can at least move the ball when he got some action. Turnover prone, but looked to make a play.

I have a headache. Lots of holes on this team.

Most experienced OL in the country gave us that. What happens when they graduate? Yikes.
Haven't we totally changed our blocking scheme up front on the OL? Ask Northwestern about big changes in scheme and time to adapt. They have really struggled on D from their big changes.

Not saying our Jesses and Joes are good enough, but...can J Lehman do his podcast tonight instead of Monday?

Art missed some open guys when he got into the game. But to start the second half we didn’t call anything to get Art comfortable with him sitting at 0-7.
Our lack of calling for screen passes is dumbfounding. Your OL is getting demolished and we called nothing to slow down their DL.
So TP takes a lot of blame in this one.
Yup… simple but effective short passes to our TE’s and RB’s out of the backfield could really open things up for the running game. Short passes are safer for an unsure QB also. Please continue to offer big-talented OL. As Illinois fans we’ve only had a few great O-lines over the years, and those were our best teams usually.

Illinois has the right staff. The players have bought in. Unfortunately, they ran into a hungry Badger ball club desperate for a win, who simply beat up Illinois at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.

Illinois couldn't stop the run on D, and couldn't run the ball on O. . . . Illinois needs a QB that can deliver the ball accurately. Both QBs consistently threw the ball high and off the mark. In fact, that has been a hallmark of both of them all season long.

You hit the nail on the head. We don't have a real QB, the only thing we can do is run and we faced the best rushing defense in the country. We had to try a different plan but BB refuses to.
Weren't our first 6 plays passes?

Almost 500 yards to less than 100 yards.

I had some hopes for the season after the Nebraska game.

The continuing rebuild continues.

Stop taking it to extremes. It does take time, but it's reasonable to expect progress, not further regression. If you're QB's can't put the ball withini reach of receivers, you try a different QB. If your style doesn't fit your personnel, you change your style to fit. On the offensive side of the ball, make your case for the progress you're seeing and the changes in style that we've implemented. On the other hand, I'm very happy with the progress we've seen on defense.
What was the “different plan” BB refuses to use? You said we don’t have a QB and we faced the best rush defense. Quick kick and hope our D can score points? And what is the style we’re supposed to be changing to that would better fit our personnel? I don’t know many “styles” that can overcome bad QBs, mediocre receivers and poor offensive linemen.

I’m as frustrated as the next guy, but this is going to take time to get better players to Illinois. I do believe that BB will raise the talent level at Illinois. Will he be able to take that better talent and turn it into wins? I’m not certain, but I think so. And if he can’t then at least the next coach coming in will have better raw materials to work with.

I agree, a 5 year old could see that the way Wisky was defending, dinking and dunking would have worked. Peterson is way over his head here. We need a young gun OC and a QB that can make plays. Even the announcers said we should have dinked and dunked. Roll the QB out, but neither peters or Sitkowski can read the D. Johnson should get a look. I am tired of not wanting to wasting his RS. We need to see what we have. I believe he is the better option. Next year, get another transfer or bring in a pro style JC QB. Our O is killing our D.

Is there a QB on the roster who could legitimately start next year? Or do you all think we look for a transfer?

I understand why people are upset, but I don’t understand what fans thought was going to happen this season. We all want them to win every game. All of the super seniors were brought back to avoid an 0-12 debacle, but we’ve seen how bad these guys have been over the past four years. If they can cobble together one or two more wins this season that would be the most anyone could reasonably expect. Most if not all of the guys on this year’s roster will be gone by the time things get turned around, if it happens at all.

Why do I feel like this is the Illinois fan base’s feeling with every coaching change…
