Yeah marquette played pretty poorly I thought which is concerning given the outcome.Marquette was trying to hand us the game too with missing who knows how many free throws and Curbelo just kept giving it right back.
Nuclear take.Hahaha! I mean.....there's hot takes and overreactions......and then there's this! Lmfao.
While I am extremely pissed about this game, it doesn't really hurt my long vision for the team. It's very frustrating, but we shot 20 less free throws, had 26 turnovers, missing a key contributor off the bench and an AA NPOY candidate. We lost by 1 on what was probably the worst game I've watched in a long time, thanks to an uncalled kick that led to a game winning layup.
Can anyone tell me why Marquette wasn't fouling at the end? There was like 1.5sec difference between shot clock and game clock? If we hold for 28 and shoot a long 3, it's over.
I'm guessing the guy was gonna go for a steal, expecting to foul and it didn't get called, nor did the kick.
Bo Boroski and Larry Scirotto are the two worst refs in college ball and we always seem to get them.
Great rundown....Our offensive possessions after the Hawkins 3 with 10:14 remaining to go up 12:
Hawkins TO
Curbelo missed fade away
Curbelo missed layup, which he rebounded and missed again
Plummer TO
Grandison TO (Charge)
Curbelo missed jumper
Frazier made 3 (61-55)
Curbelo makes 2 FTs after getting bailed out on a bad jumper (63-55)
Damonte missed jumper followed by Hawkins slam (65-57)
Curbelo missed layup
Curbelo missed layup
Curbelo missed layup
Curbelo TO and foul
Curbelo makes 1 of 2 from the line (66-62, 3:04 remaining)
Curbelo missed 3, rebounded by Damonte, missed jumper by Frazier
Grandison missed 3 pointer
Frazier missed 3 pointer
Curbelo missed jumper
Frazier TO (kick ball that wasn't)
Curbelo TO to end it.
By my count, 12 of our final 20 possessions ended in Curbelo's hands with only 3 points to show for it. 2 of those came from FTs on a questionable shot that he was bailed out on by the foul call and the other FT he hit was when he nearly turned it over and fell on the Marquette player. I don't mean to blame Curbelo as I think BU and staff should have reined in the hero ball.
I'm going to echo others on let's not overreact. Remember, our Illini that managed to get a 1 seed in last year's tournament lost to a less than impressive Mizzou team in a game in which we had Ayo AND Kofi on the court.
Of course it is. As much as people want us to beat every team on our schedule before conference play it was hard to see that happening because I still view this team as very inexperienced right now. I know Frazier, Belo, and DMW have the experience but most of these guys in our rotation that played tonight didn't play in key games last year. This team will take some time to get into a rhythm and once they do we will be very similar to last year. This is still a potential final four team. One game doesn't change that. A thought-Let's not tear Andre down. He's an amazing player who had a terrible terrible game. It's one loss and everything is still in front of us this season. Andre works his !!! off and was just off all night. I promise you we will be a different team next week, especially with a certain big man back
Sometimes when you are running hot the blinders go on and it’s all about the “get back” shot or play to right the ship. What worries me the most isn’t Curbelo’s performance, it’s the fact he didn’t have the IQ and feel to realize he needed to stop trying to force it. With Ayo gone as our closer, we need Belo to make the right play, especially when he is having a terrible game.
I am intrigued. Please explain?People blaming Brad for this game are insane
Not just any cottage cheese either, but a "fine" brand of cottage cheese. Good Culture. Double Cream Classic.So.....cottage cheese?

Even more concerning to me is the entire coaching staff sat and watched it happen and did absolutely nothing to help put the team in better position to close the game out. Yikes. What worries me the most isn’t Curbelo’s performance, it’s the fact he didn’t have the IQ and feel to realize he needed to stop trying to force it. With Ayo gone as our closer, we need Belo to make the right play, especially when he is having a terrible game.
BU deserves some criticism for allowing him to play out of control.Wow, that sounds like fun.
Hate to jump to conclusions, but I’m guessing the Venn diagram of people who are coming out of the woodwork to hang adjectives on Curbelo like emotional, hot-headed, selfish, and cocky and people who would die of auto-erotic asphyxiation if Ty Pence signed with us is more or less a single overlapping circle.
Belo deserves criticism, not gonna argue that. But I’m hearing exactly what I thought I’d hear when he cost us a game.
I am not blaming Brad either but he does need to answer for not getting the players in a win mode instead of a not to lose mode.I am intrigued. Please explain?
And now this is the most disgusting thing I’ve seen tonight. Thank you.So.....cottage cheese?

Franknitty30,He played awful. We could just leave it at that.
Or, we could go into hyperbolic fits of verbal vomit just to feel better.
I have been in the minority this year, but I have always said that Curbelo is the most overrated player in Illinois history. Give Williams and Plummer more minutes.I've never seen a starter caliber player sabotage his team's chance at victory more than Curbelo has tonight.
BU is going to use this game as bludgeoned lever for the team...and to everyone on this board....Ayo is in the league now.....comparing him to this team will be tedious going forward...and no help to anyone. Not directed to you.Seemed like Brad was trying to teach the team to fight through things and figure it out on the floor. Also seemed though like he didn’t want to lose so he didn’t play the freshman. That what’s so perplexing about the coaching in the last 5 minutes of the game. If you’re playing to win you need to coach like it down the stretch. It one game and hopefully they learn from it. Just very frustrating…Ayo ain’t walking through the door to bail the end of a game out.
Exactly my take Illiniguy. Curbelo will be burned at the stake by most posters tonight. My take?I am in shock at his lack of bball IQ. He was so determined to right the ship and refused to pass the ball. It’s mind boggling he couldn’t realize he just needed to make the simple play.
