This is two games in a row where Purdue’s strategy has been to force feed Edey early and get the opposing team’s big man into foul trouble then mysteriously stop going to him. And as strange as it sounds, both opponents performed better offensively when their big man star player was on the bench.

I wonder if it would be a wise strategy to play small ball against the Boilers instead of trying to feed Kofi against a 7-4 center. Not saying Kofi shouldn’t play, but maybe his minutes could be reduced in favor of quicker, more mobile players against this one particular opponent.

I've only watched Purdue a handful of times this year but they do feed Edey a lot to start games. I wonder if it is due to his endurance more than getting people in foul trouble. I'd say Kofi should weather the early flurry and bury Edey when his legs start to go.

Maybe start BBV on Edey early… or Payne?

Or maybe the best strategy is to just ride your best horses. Purdue just seem like such an anomaly of a basketball team.

We should full speed blitz when Edey is on the floor. Force him to sprint his brains out every possession and see how fast you can make his legs start to go. Sticking with fb terms, treat him like a DL going against a tempo O and gas him asap. Plus we know Kofi can handle running like that very well.

Just my humble opinon........no.

And I agree with ElderIlliniFan, Sasha is the key for Purdue....gotta shut him down for 40.

Who does CoHawk guard on Purdue in the rematch? I wasn’t paying close attention during his very limited time in the last game.

Purdue was 7-17 from the line. I think they made like 26 FT's against us. *sigh*
When playing against us they also missed two very important FTs. Ivey missed the first of one-and-one when they were 69-67 with 26 seconds left - if he made both we were very unlikely to make it to OT. And Stefanovic missed the second one when they were 78-76 with 25 seconds left in OT.

Great observation. I did not watch this game but after looking at the final stats it’s obvious that fouls called and free throw shooting are glaring differences between this game and our game against Purdue.

Purdue made 14 more free throws than we did. IU made 7 more free throws than Purdue. That’s a 21 point difference between the games.

From the Purdue board. I know our own board has some crazy conspiracy theory types… but blaming Travian Williams’ play the last two games on a brain tumor is some serious grasping at straws.

Maybe edey did good against kofi because kofi is big enough that edey can lower his shoulder into him. Unlike he could against Verdonk and indiana big.
