Brilliant strategy by BU to sit the freshmen so they can be fully unleashed on Houston on Sunday. 4D chess, man.

Yeah….. and BU will break out a zone and press a little bit too 😂

NO COMPLAINTS after an NCAA tournament win. Survive and advance.

These games are tough... and we did not end up like Iowa or Kentucky!!
Not in agreement. I got complaints galore.

Illini need to perform like a team going places, not a skin-of-the-teeth survivor. My hope is a national championship - and I think that is everyone's hope here, and that of the players and staff.

That just won't happen without winning close games, including ones like this where you play remarkably poorly. But over the last several weeks, this year's team has repeatedly shown that it is not in synch in the way that will (likely) be needed to get deep into the tournament.

By the way, "deep in the tournament" does not meaning the opening round game only.

I don’t get the Williams hate. He made some big defensive plays In the second half. Curbelo and Hawkins are peaking at the perfect time. Let’s hope we get our super seniors back on track. i have no idea how Kofi keeps his cool. It‘s mind blowing how much he’s hacked and held.
Williams is always going to take heat when our offense sucks, because he’s frankly an offensive liability most games. His defensive effectiveness will this go unnoticed.

Need to clean up the turnovers Defense was awesome. Hope the 3 point shooting comes back on Sunday
I would grade the defense as pretty good. Not awesome. Some excellent stops, but some bizarre and frankly lazy (Plummer, and really out-of-character Williams) breakdowns.

When the game started and we fell behind by double digits , I had my doubts.....................
When we had our run and closed within 4 points at the half , I had my doubts...................
When they came out with a 7-0 run to start the second half , I had my doubts..................
When we FINALLY got a lead in the game , I had my doubts........................................
When we took back the lead on Plummer's 2 free throws , I had my doubts......................
When CoHawk blocked the shot by Smith , I had my doubts...............................
When I saw CoHawk corral that last rebound , all doubts disappeared........................

We won .................................A big W....................................I don't care how we did it .......WE WON ......................

Our next game is Sunday and nobody here knows how it will go down , so please limit the handwringing until the next game thread .....That's where all the pessimists really shine , because no matter how we won , WE WON ...........................................

Thanks. I was just now trying to understand how a village in Northern Michigan on the lake figured into BU's halftime adjustments.
Pentwater ... might be another dominant erupt situation. Regardless, the term seems like another solid step forward in Illini phraseology.

Is it "pentwater", though? Or actually "pent-water"?

Absolutely wrong.

Beat Iowa twice, scUM twice, won Bragging Rights vs Miznoz.....won regular season B1G.

This was a successful season.

"The NCAA Tourney is all that matters"....is a terrible way to look at our team. Or any team.

It will be disappointing not to advance...but it's not a reflection on the entire season.
Not sure how your lengthy list of accomplishments in any way indicates that the original poster is "absolutely wrong". He has a point, I'd say, no matter how much I don't like it.

Dude. A lot of truth in what you say. However, they still won. Life is so short. Enjoy it one win at a time.

Because It indicates that it's a successful season. Which directly counters his point. Which makes it absolutely wrong.
This season has been a success.

If his point is only that failing to get out of the first weekend of the tourney is just a disappointment...then we are in agreement. But that wasn't his point.

100%. I don't view last season as a disappointment either. The Tourney was a disappointment, sure. But taken on the whole, it was a successful season, and I think we can say the same about this one if we lose. Also, we're a 4 seed. A 4 seed losing in the 2nd round is maybe a slightly below average result, not some huge disappointment.
Neither season is a disappointment in my view either. The NCAA tournament is a poor way to judge season success in any given year. Just too much luck -- or bad luck - involved in winning successive 40-minute games. NBA format (not something even remotely possible in NCAA) is much more decisive as far as judging a season.

Still, I'd like to get out of the first weekend of the NCAA tournament one of this many, many long years. Guess it depends whether your deepest wish (well, in basketball!) is to win at the highest level, or alternatively be involved in the action. I have only ever wanted to win a national championship. Probably a character flaw. :)

He wrote "Brad Underwood has never advanced beyond the 1st weekend. IMO, if this veteran Illini roster doesn’t play to seed and advance, this season will be viewed as a great disappointment."

You wrote about other ways to evaluate success than he did. So I don't think that makes him "absolutely wrong", and certainly nor you either. Just different ways of evaluating things.

Four Roses, baby. Married a fine lady from Louisville here and she turned me on. May have enjoyed that UK game yesterday, too…
Even better, Four Roses Small Batch. Right up there with Baker's and Basil Hayden as my faves.

Also, did my bachelor party in Louisville. Hit up some distillaries. Great town.
