College Basketball What GIF by NCAA March Madness
I really don't wanna lose Belo at all, but to lose him and Alan Griffin to the same school (if this a thing) makes it worse! I was such a huge AG fan!

Belo looks good in orange...
Well when you say home, East Coast, and Legend that all points to Syracuse. He played high school ball in New York and Boeheim is a legendary coach. He's also 77 years old and all the coaches of his ilk are retiring now. How many years does he have left?

You could count me as a Belo hater. I think he does some amazing things on the court, but he can also do as much damage as help. I kinda view him as a Barry Sanders type player. He does some things that make you stand up and say wow. Then he will follow that up by trying too hard and making turnovers that ruin the offense. It makes it hard to sustain momentum. Of course if he can ever limit the unforced turnovers and just get 90% good Belo, he's 1st team All Conference and a potential All American. So I think what separates a hater from a lover is often those that focus on what can be, not necessarily what we're currently seeing.

For me personally, if he leaves and we get Skyy Clark and a superstar mystery 2 guard, I won't be heart broken. I'd prefer more experienced ball handlers, but with Epps, Clark, new guy, and Rodgers, I think we could get the ball up the court. Now if Clark doesn't come and a transfer isn't much of a combo guy, a transfer could be trouble.

So no one else is thinking Miami? Laranaga has won over 600 games, which could qualify as legendary... He also has a 5th year PG, and is playing in the sweet 16.

Miami is about as "home" for someone from Puerto Rico as you can get on the mainland.

Hope he decides to give BU another year to get his career back on its previous trajectory.

I wouldn't personally consider Laranaga a legend and don't know a lot that would, but Miami also seems a logical choice.

It all depends what he wants. Belo has to see, outside of Fr, I'm the only PG on the roster, so my PT should go up. Is there a point of discontent currently? If not, is the grass greener at Syracuse? I think you can safely say no. Will things be better at Miami? If Kofi stays, I think you can say no. So pure basketballwise I don't see why Belo would leave. But of course there are always factors we don't know about in players lives.

For all the speculation about Belo leaving, his posts sound optimistic that he will return. Examples being his instagram post including "#WeWillBeBack" and "Coming back stronger than ever". This is no guarantee he comes back, but these posts make it sound like he's out the door and just figuring out where to.

Also too I would think he’s got one of the better NIL deals around with the Credit Union. Of course Miami is a bigger market, but Canes basketball has to be pretty far down on the list of things people care about down by south beach. Presumably he’d have to start over with his branding etc down there where here he is a known commodity.

I love Belo and I feel so bad for the year he had and hope he stays. This season will forever be a what could have been to me with Belo dicing up defenses and throwing lobs to Kofi/Payne/CH/RJ. I really hope he stays but wouldn’t blame him if he feels like he needs a reset. Wish the best to him in any case.

Long Island university perhaps?

Or perhaps…he’s staying “home” at Illinois to become a legend?

Also, the east coast, home, legend thing was made up by someone on this board no?

One person posted it and people ran with it. They even acknowledged it was a random rumor. But that was enough for the mind to start spinning
Lville also suggested that AC is a potential transfer, which gave it some more credence... (he also said he thinks he will stay once he meets with the staff). People just keep adding more smoke.

Welcome to Loyalty, where growth plates are always open, everyone is more athletic than Larry Bird, and the sky is always falling!

Syracuse has become irrelevant. I loved AG too, but we saw how that played out. Boeheim has to be close to calling it a career.

Still say AG couldn’t have picked a worse landing spot. He had the length, athleticism and shooting to play in the league. His next step was to become a lock down defender or at least improve his defense, which was atrocious. Of course that’s something BU makes it a priority to teach here, but there are many places he could have gone where he could have worked on it. Hiding in a zone is about the last thing he needed to do.

Again, feel bad for the kid because I really do think he could have played in the league if he developed his game properly. I think he got some really bad advice.

Gotta say, this is the first time I've ever heard "Barry Sanders* type player" mean anything other than "generational talent and one of the all-time greats"

*just for clarity, we are talking about the Barry Sanders that is a Heisman winner, a unanimous All-American, NFL Offensive ROY, two-time NFL Offensive POY, NFL MVP and Pro Football Hall of Famer? Not some other Barry Sanders that could plausibly described as doing "as much damage as help"?

Not sure how you can be hated and compared to Barry Sanders in the same thought?? Welcome to Illinois Loyalty 2022 :)

When I think of Barry Sanders I think of one of the most electric plyers of any sport. I also think of a generational talent wasted by an inept organization.

That organization has continued to remain inept long after Sanders retired early, wasting another generational talent's career on the way. (Calvin Johnson) Then wasted one of the most prolific QB's in history's prime. One year after leaving that organization, that QB won the Super Bowl. (Apparently, he wasn't the one holding them back...)

Update...
Skyy Clark is sounding very positive still-we are in the leading position right now
RJ and Luke are for sure coming back next year. Only person I think could possibly leave is Curbelo. Will meet with the staff in the next few weeks but I still expect him to stay.
The Mizzou transfer....There is SERIOUS interest there. Brad loves him
Reeves isn't a take-there will be a better two guard in the portal in the next couple of weeks that we will go after
Oh, and lastly....
Have heard some very strong buzz on Kofi coming back next year. Still a few weeks to go, but we should have our answer by early to mid April.
Would like to see Curbelo stay if he can cut down the turnovers and get a jump shot. If we lose him and don't get Skyy Clark, that really only leaves a true freshman at point guard. Ouch! Excited about the freshman class. Especially Rodgers and Epps for now. I think Harris has tons of potential. Will be very interesting to see how Kofi and Dainja (?) play together and if Payne sticks around (if Kofi stays). I think no matter what this team needs to become more athletic with more size in the backcourt. Give me some more Gill, Anderson, Battle teams. Athletes. My two cents.

Belo's problem is when things get stalled (our offence) he over tries to make things happen. When 3 pointers aren't falling and people are not making plays he forces a pass into a very small window or tries to be the one to score against the odds. Some time it works some times it doesn't. Because he sees things that others don't players often find a ball in their face that they were not expecting or are ready to do something with. Surround him with athletic shooters he can feed and player that can outlet and run the flour like when Ayo was last year and he will shine. Hope it's here. ILL

I felt after his Freshman year that he was the one player on the team that could be in the NBA for several years.
I agree with your thought process here…

Kofi #1, but I hope we keep Belo.
