(A) Are Loyalty members recruiting the players now? Is that an NCAA violation?!?
(B) The discussion is mostly about current players' ability to play in the NBA or their future contributions to the team, which could really fall in the Illini team discussion. But what do I know? :)
Time for a 2022-23 roster speculation thread? Either way wouldn't you still be "opening thread, closing thread"? It is just conversation while we wait for the Skyy is landing news! Its been falling for a while now😀

I love Kofi but he is not in the same stratosphere as Shaq. Shaq was a much much better athlete. Much more explosive and better hand eye coordination. How often did Shaq get a shot blocked or dribble up the court. If Shaq was coming out this year he would without a doubt be the number one overall pick. Your talking about one if the top players in NBA and College basketball history. Come on man!

I cannot hear anything regarding Shaq playing in college without thinking of this:

That's okay, when I was younger, I used to date myself...A LOT!

He is close to Shaq. Just the NBA has moved away from the Shaq type of player. In reality, Shaq had the range out to about 6 ft. Couldn't shoot a FT, he was just a physical force. I'd say Kofi is a little more skilled than Shaq, Shaq maybe more agile.

I'd be interested to see what the NBA would think of Shaq if he was coming out of college this year? He couldn't shoot, I think he only attempted 1 three in his career, but he was a physical monster, just like Kofi. Would Shaq get passed over in 2022 as well?
While Kofi may be the closest thing we have seen to Shaq in awhile, he isn't Shaq. Go watch some video of him at LSU. He was much quicker at making decisions with the ball, and getting off the ground.
Shaq averaged 5 blocks a game. To say he was able to control the paint is an understatement. He dominated the paint. He averaged 13 Rebounds a game for his career. (#1 in NCAA 1985-Present) He also got 1.5 steals/game... which is really good for a guard.
If Kofi could play defense like Shaq, he'd already be in the NBA.

I did not say they were the same, but to say they're not in the same stratosphere is ridiculous. You do realize Kofi was a 2nd team All American as a Soph and 1st team as a Jr. You can't get much better. I don't think anyone would dispute Shaq is better than Kofi, but to say they're not even similar is an equal stretch.

My larger point was, is there a place for Shaq in the NBA today? He's was a pure physical force, not much skill. Well Kofi is a physical force we haven't really seen since Shaq. However the game has changed greatly in the last 30 years. I think no one would argue, if Kofi graduated the year after Shaq (1993) he's a lottery pick, quite possibly #1 overall.

Not to far off.... Maybe I'm just bias. But I do see a lot of similarities.
You over looked the one where NBA guys evaluated him as #1 overall. Lol..I love Kofi but his numbers don't mean he is ready for the NBA. His athleticism and play dictates that. Meyers Leonard made it and stuck based on that. I hope Kofi can but I have my doubts. Shaq would be the best player in years if he came out today. To say he has no skill and wouldn't be the #1 overall clearly now is ludicrous. Like Alonzo Morning said big men back then didn't work on shooting outside. That doesn't mean they couldn't have done it today

If Kofi was close to Shaq he would be at least a solid lottery pick. I love Kofi but I think you said it yourself. You may be biased n more than a little bit. I'm a die hard Illini fan but most fans outside our fan base would disagree with you...Take care and Go Illini.

Yea but Kofi can make free throws... Shaq couldn't. Imagine what Shaq could've scored if he could have! That'll help Kofi chances I believe. He isn't a liability on the line and can draw fouls at a high clip.

Podz had a couple very nice drives to the hoop in traffic. He has good handles, size 6'5" 200 lbs per ESPN, quickness and a nice outside shot. He could be a 20 mpg if his defense is up to it. More athletic than Goode. Might be able to play point in pinch.

If I was Podz I would stay another season. We are losing 5 starters (counting Kofi) and our 6th man (Andre).
I can't imagine another school that has more playing time available.

He would not have come to P5 school if he did not believe in his ability. He has 1 year of offense and weightlifting under his belt. Right now competition is Epps (freshman) and Harris (freshman) plus possible portal transfer. Skyy is a long long shot.

Goode and RJ are SF. Coleman and Rodgers are PF. Dainja and Payne are C.

Will be surprised if Podz doesn’t see significant time next year. A year of team experience is a huge advantage over incoming frosh. He has size, can shoot, and evidently can play defense. He also seemed very poised and knew what he was doing in his brief amount of playing time. Would be great if he was a PG but don’t think that is the case. He can however fit the mold for a switching defense for 1-4 if he could guard Trent.

Yeah I love Kofi too but Shaq was 20 years old and averaged like 5 blocks a game as well. And im also known for some STRONG orange kool-aid
