Yeah, obviously the staff knows what they have and what they're doing better than I do (only just barely though), but BBV is a pretty valuable piece if he's your 3rd big imo. You need guys that are capable but also know their role (ie, don't expect to play much) and are good teammates. All indications are BBV checks all those boxes. Plus you know what you're getting and don't risk a Payne situation where the transfer player seems to be an upgrade but ends up not living up to expectations.
Plus with him going to Chicago with Kofi, one could assume Kofi is at least friends with BBV if not close friends. If Kofi stays, not a bad thing to keep his friends close — especially when he is a serviceable backup.

I just can’t imagine there’s gonna be 3-4 transfers that all pick Illiniois. If we truly have 3 more transferring out, and they are all theoretically at the bottom of the roster (BBV, Lieb, Podz?) do we really expect all the transfers to come here and compete with a team that looks to be 13 Deep in starter caliber players?

I think the consensus is we get Skyy and add two in the portal and that's it-possibly a depth big guy but we will see

Not sure why there would be any reason not to share, but....who do you think are for sure?
Seems wrong to me unless they have already informed the staff and it just hasn’t hit the portal officially yet. Still I’d prefer for these guys to have control of their situation and handle it they way they want, rather than the message boards running wild with it.

The latter has to be Podz right guys?
Seems like Hutch and Lieb are the most obvious. Can't imagine either seeing the court moving forward. Granted, who knows if that matters much to Lieb.

Edit: just realized you were referring to the one that depends on who we bring in...agree that seems like it would be Podz

Purely speculation after AC and OP but the others my thoughts would be Jake leaving, Hutch, and Lieb as the other three if that many to leave. I would think Podz may but he isn't as "obvious" to me. He has good size and could shoot and would seem to have an advantage over most of the freshmen.

(No specific Illini news... just reacting here...)

As many observers of Life have long noted... one thing we have lost along the way is the whole notion of Innocence. Not just for our youngest but for everybody.

There is good Innocence and bad Innocence. Bad innocence is when you refuse to grow up and become an adult in meaningful ways. Being clueless. Doing wrong and knowing you are. Or worse, not knowing.

Good Innocence is not just for kids but for people of all ages and stages of Life. Pure. Simple. Joyful. Not complicated.

Good Innocence is never taking the ‘little’ things of Life for granted. Good Innocence is not letting the dark side of Life bring you down or poison your attitude about Life.

Life is not supposed to be just an endurance test. Life is not meant to be just doing routine things and wasting your life away on things that don’t bring you joy.

That’s one reason we like to find a sports team to ‘love’. This is our connection to our own Innocence. Our youth. Our fun place. Our connection to our feeling about the first good friends we ever made. Something ‘simple’ that we can share together in our pursuit of sports joy. Pursuit of wins. Achievement of successes.
Together not apart.

Kids are becoming adults very fast. Too fast. And in this process, an important stage of Life is being lost for them. Too quickly does the joy and innocence of Life give way to peer pressure, competition, conflict, attitudes-shaping from social media, and things that were meant to be faced later in their lives that are now being force-fed before anyone is ready for them.

It’s wonderful that you – IllinoisssssssVarsity – have had this realization. Maybe later than you wanted to, but it’s never a bad time.

Innocence goes by in a flash. Just like college careers of these young people who put on these uniforms and who also have grown up much faster than those who came before.

Look at some old photographs of college players in the 1950s. Look at the uniforms. Look at the small gyms. Look at the body types and size of the players. It’s like a whole different world.

Good college teams today would have no trouble at all competing and succeeding against the pro players from that era. And the pro players would stand there astonished at how big and how good these college guys from today are. Doing things they never even imagined doing back then.

We need to all stay Innocent. In the Good way.
That was really good you guys. Thanks for helping to keep it real.

I realize it's the "New World" in CBB and this is just how it's going to be....but I have to admit...as excited as I'll be for some of these possible transfers, I will be very conflicted if we lose Podz.

Mr. Basketball Wisconsin commits to ILL, and all in...every day guy....I'd honestly be more bummed to lose him than Curbelo...and I'm a Curbelo fan.
I think he was/is a huge prep recruiting win for this program, but alas....I guess it isn't all about the preps anymore.

Que sera sera.

transfers....think Jake leaves and Kofi comes back. 2 of the transfers are for sure, one will depend on who we bring in
With Omar announcing, I would guess the other definite would be Lieb. The one that’s contingent, I’m guessing is Podz. If we bring in Clark, Shannon, and Williams, along with Epps and Harris, I don’t see minutes for him.

I was the worst Cardinal fan. Baseball just bores the hell outta me. Moving to NC gave me permission to quit pretending.
I played baseball and love it; it’s the purest sport, IMO. However, watching baseball on TV vs. being in the ballpark is the biggest disparity of any sport. The former requires near obsession with the game (pre-playoffs, anyway), but being there?? Man, not sure how you couldn’t enjoy that…

Hope Omar has graduated or will before new school. Assuming he could play right away as a grad transfer but maybe not?
