I asked about Holmgren because of hearing about how physical the Big 10 is and how Lieb was impaired by his lack of girth. That Holmgren is skinny!MTMinded answered your question accurately. Plus -- the Big10 isn't all that special, as evidenced by our success in the tourney over the past 22 years.
Zero championships since MSU in 2000. Quite an amazing drought.
After watching a few Gonzaga games, I have no idea why Holmgren is considered the #1 overall player. He’s skinny and not that athletic. I didn’t see itI asked about Holmgren because of hearing about how physical the Big 10 is and how Lieb was impaired by his lack of girth. That Holmgren is skinny!

In the first two decades of this century, no league was better at maximizing its opportunities in the men’s NCAA Tournament. From 2000 to 2019, the Big Ten reached 16 Final Fours, most of any conference, and 48 Sweet 16s, two shy of the ACC’s 50 — despite the fact that the ACC earned 37 top-two seeds and the Big Ten totaled only 21.
Ohio state loses Liddell and BranhamNew age - every team starts over. If Kofi returns we will be favorite to win B10. If he doesn't the B10 will be wide open.
Headed to NBA
Iowa loses Murray, Bohannon SR
Purdue loses Jaden Ivey and Trevion Williams
Wisconsin loses Johnny Davis , Brad Davis SR
Rutgers loses Ron Harper, Geo Baker SR
Illinois Plummer SR, Frazier SR Williams SR Grandison SR, Kofi ?
No championships, but the league has had success. It's really only the last two tournaments that have been bad for the Big Ten

A trip to the Illinois General Assembly? Maybe he lost?He won rock, paper, scissors.
Watching him, I was shocked at how well he held up to contact. Looks like you could blow him over with a sneeze... Kid is an amazing shot blocker. So good, the refs seemed to think he must be fouling Bacot in their game with UNC, despite the video showing otherwise.I am not as knowledgeable about this game as many on this board. So I hope someone could give an educated opinion about whether Chet Holmgren, the 7’, 194 lb. Gonzaga player, would have been successful if he played in the Big 10?
Lieb plays basketball because he is 7 feet tall. Holmgren is a basketball player who happens to be over 7 feet tall.I asked about Holmgren because of hearing about how physical the Big 10 is and how Lieb was impaired by his lack of girth. That Holmgren is skinny!
RJ, CoHawk, Lieb are present. So are they transferring or naaaawww?
In theory, Hawkins and RJ are 3 level scorers. But we've only seen that from them sparingly.Changing the subject a bit with a question. You need guys who can score at all 3 levels.
Who on the Illinois roster can do that?
Who would you characterize as a specialist at one level (e.g. Kofi down low, Goode 3 pt).
I don’t think we have a proven three level scorer on this team, but that’ll be the case when you have 6 or 7 new comers. Epps if he’s as billed would be one, maybe Rodgers if his 3pt shooting improves. Dain as a sneaky choice (pure guessing)? RJ probably has the best chance to be that guy out of last years freshmen.Changing the subject a bit with a question. You need guys who can score at all 3 levels.

Lieb is the only one I could see at this point. Hutch and Grandison leaving will open two other spots though for sure.RJ, CoHawk, Lieb are present. So are they transferring or naaaawww?
Good read. In a single loss tournament format, the best team doesn't always win, as the tournament record (won 4 of the 37 tournaments held since it expanded to the 64+ team format) of teams ranked #1 in the final AP poll attests. During NAT championship game it surprised me how many 3 and 4 yr players were on the court. I think those teams (with key player/veterans) will usually outlast 1 and 2 yr players, ala Kentucky and Duke...not always, of course. The top programs consistently have entire rosters with top 50 as well as 5* talent headlining their rosters.
Yes, we had 2 AA with Ayo and Kofi, and Kofi again this year. However, when you look at the other parts, we have primarily been 4* and 3*. CoHawk was rated around 135’ish. RJ around top 100’ish. (Not worth my time to do actual research) I believe Trent was a 3* out of HS. Lots of our guys were 100 - 125 which is borderline 4* or 3*. I am not knocking any of them. There’s just such a gap top 20 players vs top 125. I think we forget that at times due to the success we’ve had for 3 years now.
But, the tide has turned and we are now at least relevant for top recruits. (Still haven’t landed a 5*)
So while some may want to critique BU and talk about underperforming in the tournament, I would suggest we are over performing all season long due to work ethic, culture, coaching, etc. Then, at tournament time, teams loaded with 5*, 4*, and one and done caliber players typically shine.
I love the direction of the beloved. I love some (most) of our pieces. But we aren’t today where we will be 2 years from now.
I truly think that 2 - 3 years from now we will get one or two 5* players consistently, and filling out the roster with high ceiling 4*.
Just my opinion. I L L
A shot blocker who can shoot 3's is the perfect 5 in the modern NBA. He may fit better on a team that already has a ball dominant scorer, but there aren't many guys with his length who can do all the things he can do on both ends of the court. Plus he's 19 in that body so who knows what he could be in 5 years. After watching a few Gonzaga games, I have no idea why Holmgren is considered the #1 overall player. Anyone got the scoop on Dainja, has he lost a few lbs? Looking pretty fit in these pics.
I think it depends if he becomes injury prone in NBA or can thrive He only averaged 14 pts per game as a freshman. I think he should stay another year, get strong and improve his game. It would help him if Drew Timme went to NBA so he could become the main man at Gonzaga.A shot blocker who can shoot 3's is the perfect 5 in the modern NBA. Any list of skinny, mobile, elite shooting, NBA 7' -ers that doesn't include Dirk Nowitzki is summarily dismissed.I think it depends if he becomes injury prone in NBA or can thrive He only averaged 14 pts per game as a freshman.
