I was looking at the new pic of the upcoming freshman and loving what I know about each of them. I am excited that they chose to bring their talents to the beloved. And then, because of the influence of the recruiting/transfer thread along with Illini life experience, the painful thought of who will make it past their freshman year reared its ugly head.
Don't hate on me, I hate myself enough already.

IMO, Epps is the most important guy to maintain an "active recruitment" on during the season. He has the three-level scoring to be a potentially elite player as an upperclassmen, hell, Big Ten Player of the Year wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility, but he needs the ball in his hands to be that guy and the offense isn't going to run through him Day 1. Don't want him to get frustrated if he isn't getting the burn and touches that maybe he'd like as a Freshman.

I agree about his potential but think that's a big reason why he'll see the court a good amount this year. Think he could end up occupying a role similar to Belo's freshman as 6th man, albeit with possibly even more responsibility depending on who we bring in. More concerned about Sencire since he seems to be a bit more of a developmental piece.

We are recruiting well... so we will have players thinking 1 or 2 and done...also there is the portal if not the best fit so...we might not have as many 4 year players and have to cheer for them while we can. It's a changing landscape...not many good players are thinking 4 years. We also have a great culture here so...who knows.

I would not at all be confident going into the season with Belo. Fans were already bad towards him this year as well, can you imagine if it’s a repeat of last year? Both sides need to move on.
Fans are fickle and assuming belo comes back and at the start of 22-23 season belo returns and performs at a high level things will be fine. I am in the camp he will be significantly better. If he doesn’t perform at a high level there will lots of negative comments and i told you so. Staff will need to have those conversations to prepare.

Ok, did I miss something? Why are you guys projecting a lineup with Curbelo in it?

EDIT: Nvm!!! Just ran through the other thread LOL
LoL! Like 10 pages! And you get up tomorrow there is a new rumor, suddenly another 10 pages in 2 hours. I can hardly catch up.

Belo was never healthy this year. Go watch his last ten games as a true freshman. Do we welcome him back with nothing but two true freshmen (one coming off an acl) at guard? Uh… yeah.

The only possible scenario in which you don’t take Belo back is if TSJ or Ramey has made that an ultimatum, and even then, I lean highly towards Belo.

I don’t know what happened with team/coaches off the court, but unless his return would risk another key player (Kofi, RJ, etc) leaving… this is easy.

I don't know why I want to believe Belo will come back and not even sure if I want that. But let's just have fun and live in our dreams!

I'm much more comfortable having him back with how this has played out, now that he has to ask to come back -- and pledge to be a team player as part of that.

My guess is that this will end up being like the 2 days during the Adam Miller saga when we all thought he might legit come back b/c he had a clubhouse hangout (or spaces or whatever) with Frazier and DMW. Only in this case replace the online hangout with pickup basketball. Would love to be wrong and have him back though.

Put Epps at point and call it a day. I'm ready for consistency at the point guard position. I'm honestly surprised Belo doesn't want to hit the reset button and start fresh somewhere else.
