This post utilizes May 5th "old news", but I found it interesting. I couldn't find where this particular poll has been brought up on this forum, but if it has, my apologies.

Jon Rothstein's twitter updated Top 45 preseason poll. He has done his research, but he will not be popular with Loyalty.

36. Illinois
G
Skyy Clark
G Terrence Shannon Jr.
G R.J. Melendez
F Coleman Hawkins
C Dain Dainja
Projected Bench: Luke Goode, Ty Rodgers, Jayden Epps, Sencire Harris, Brandon Lieb
Key Losses: Kofi Cockburn, Trent Frazier, Jacob Grandison, Benjamin Bosmans-Verdonk, Andre Curbelo, Da’Monte Williams
Key Newcomers: Skyy Clark, Ty Rodgers, Jayden Epps, Sencire Harris, Dain Dainja (Baylor), Terrence Shannon Jr. (Texas Tech)
Seniors Who Could Return: Jacob Grandison

He DOES create news by working hard and reaching out to sources. But he falls prey to the national spotlight. He likes to say "Stay hungry and stay humble", but the latter? ....

Has 5 other B1G teams ahead of IL, with MI at # 12 leading the way for our conference. Has one final B1G team, Iowa, at # 43.

The young talent is always gonna have to prove itself. If we got the type of guys BU wants (which I think we do), stuff like this is just gonna be fuel for the fire.

BU’s next DMW; likely counting on him to continue the culture. Prolly gonna be with us for 4 years. Think he’ll be a favorite of fans before he leaves. Not because he breaks any records, but because he’s gonna be…the next glue guy

Who doesn’t love a glue guy 🤷‍♂️

I don’t know where to post this: Does anyone know if the House of ‘Paign is playing in TBT this year?

I don’t believe he’s putting the team together this year. Mike Daum signed with Sideline Cancer already

Very doubtful. Who's going to want to come in and be a backup?
That's more or less what I was trying to say. Yea, Brad wasn't gonna tell a transfer guard to come in and be a back up. On the other hand, he probably didn't want to soft guarantee some of those guys a starter position, either, unless he is nearly as good as Skyy. Therefore, nothing happened.

Hadn’t seen this posted yet. 247 article on the upcoming year and roster building…

On this board it seems we never talk about zone defense. I know it's not Underwood's preferred strategy, but with the length and athleticism we're going to have, a zone (from time to time) or even a zone press (from time to time) could be effective. I could see Hawkins at the point on a diamond and one full court option. And I don't mean all the time; for BU, man defense will always be the choice.

I think we'll see it a bit more this season, at least the zone press, and not just if we are desperately behind ... I mean as a weapon.

Almost every pregame/postgame/game thread when the team loses people are always asking about running a zone. I don't think it's a good fit with the attitude BU wants and it also doesn't fit his view of the analytics. He wants a tough in your face D that doesn't give a lot of space. He also wants to force teams off the 3 point line and into contested midrange jumpers which the zone does some but also can be prone to giving up a lot of open 3s.

I do think mixing in some press is a good idea though. They used it a couple of times last in the season and it seemed to be pretty effective. Iowa is grossly enough a decent example of mixing in press to good effect and I agree there is definitely enough length/athleticism to make it work.

That is too bad if he doesn’t. TBT got me through bball withdrawal summer doldrums the past couple of years.
Was just looking into this.
Teams guaranteed a spot this year, if they won a game last year. Half field is set.
Other teams can apply, draw to get into field sometime in June.

Is tough in your face man to man defense more tiring than offense? Absolutely. That can translate into IL being one of the most in-shape teams in the nation next season. My belief is that if you have this philosophy, however, you had better make liberal use of your bench. And we will have a great 2nd team next year. Many team's fades are due to fatigue and/or injury, to which fatigue definitely contributes. Recovery from overtraining is not a quick fix.

BU won't switch to a zone if a player or players are getting beat off the dribble, scoring, or dishing. He will substitute the player(s) getting beat. He's more right than wrong on this point (if he has the right players), but he has got to use that strong bench early and often and avoid over fatigue.
