Did @LvilleILL get replaced as an insider by @DB11Headband ? Nothing against DB11, but would have thought with the TSJ call, he would have cemented his status.

If Nance isn't making his decision 100% on where he feels is likeliest to prepare him for the NBA then he's a fool. If he doesn't come to Illinois, I'm sure it's because he feels some combination of playing time, position, or preparation make him less likely to make the NBA than at some other school.
It's not so black and white. There are likely a couple dozen teams that could improve his prospects. There's no mathematical formula to find the "best" so other factors come in to play.

That's why I said the place where he feels he will be best prepared. If he has 2 or 3 schools (including us) that he feels will equally prepare him, then sure, cut us due to loyalty to Northwestern. But if he feels we are the best, he'd be a fool to cut us out of loyalty.

Someone may or may not have mentioned this but if Nance left NU on relatively good terms, don't you think that some of his decision will be based on having to play twice (or more) against the University where he played for 4 years, thus destroying any legacy he left ?
I've often wondered about that too. It could be a real impediment.

Fears and Boswell are 2023's? It sure seems like they were being recruited as 22's
It's just U17, not necessarily 2022 or 23's, but I know Kylan was considered a reclass candidate when we were recruiting him.
Edit: Nevermind, just noticed they listed their graduation date on the spreadsheet.

If this is the case, at least it'd mean Michigan would be out, too. If we don't get him, and I've resigned to the fact it's pretty unlikely, I really don't want him to stay in the B1G.

Let’s get Andy Katz and Waddell in the same room to talk Illini hoops.

Only drinks to be served will be orange koolaid or orange crush and we will all snack on orange starburst.

Or orange Cheetos. Goes better with a sweet drink.

New mascott???

While I know we all appreciate our insiders passing along the information we have, I find myself increasingly frustrated with the sources for our insiders.

Time and time again we are seeing "I was told he was a lock." We have all seen how fluid recruiting can be, it gets referenced and talked about all the time on these threads. So why do these assistant coaches or people close to the program seem to not realize that and jump the gun, calling kids locks when they clearly are not?

I know they are going on what these kids tell them, and a lot of the players aren't completely straightforward, but shouldn't they be more cautious about all of this by now?

Or is it not really a big deal for them either way because they are essentially anonymous and it doesn't matter much to them if they end up being wrong. It's the insiders passing the information along to us that have to deal with more of the fallout.

Again, this is no shade at the insiders at all, this is questioning the premature celebrations that seem to be coming sources themselves lately.

If you think it's rough now, let me tell you about this board 4-5 years ago...

This message board was built on premature celebrations. The insiders are not going to bat 1.000 on predictions, but I think they give us plenty to feed on and give us some idea of how the staff operating in recruiting. Seems like a fair deal to me

Again, unless the insiders are falsely exaggerating or inflating the confidence the staff has about landing a recruit, I have no issues with how the insiders handle themselves on here. I love having them and what they bring.

It just seems like the staff members themselves need to be more cautious when relaying information to the insiders. That is my criticism.

The 2010s were a low point for the beloved, including IL.

If our insiders hit 20% of their predictions, we’re doing great. They’ve been far exceeding that lately.

We’ve replaced a south side barber with Tyler Underwood. That alone is a huge step up in insider clout.

A couple things to know about the information you’ll receive on this board:

1: A portion of the “insiders” are not insiders at all. They have no sources. They simply gather info on Twitter and premium boards and pass it along here as inside information. Another portion of the insiders not only have no sources, but are simply trolling the board and pass along wild guesses for fun. Only a small portion of “insiders” have true sources, whether that’s with the staff or a player/recruit.

2: Kids are kids. They change their mind. A lot. They also tell multiple coaches they’re in. So even if an insider has a source on the staff, there’s still a good chance the information they hear is wrong. That’s just part of it.

3: Message boards, like this, are mostly wild speculation. Some of it will come to fruition. Some of it won’t. If you only want “facts”, don’t come into the board, just read the front page. That’s real news.

4: Have fun with it. Treat the board more as entertainment than “news” and you’ll be a heck of a lot happier.

People are getting Kofi too connected to the 5 in their minds. From memory, when Underwood came here, we were thinking he wanted a 4 out 1 in system, with everyone on the team being able to shoot. The big would often play at the top of the key, and needed to be a good passer because they would often facilitate the offense from 15 feet out. We thought Drew Timme could be an ideal fit for that system.

Well, we didn't get Timme but did land Kofi. Kofi was a physical freak and dominant in the paint, so we changed the offense to be more traditional. Now that Kofi is gone, I would imagine Underwood will look to go back to that 4 out 1 in. As much size as possible and as much shooting as possible. Mayer may be our 4 in the lineup, but he is as much a 2 as a 4. I always thought Underwood basically looked at it as PG, wings, big. So all of this is to say, if Nance is concerned that he will be put in the paint with his back to the basket, I don't think that's a valid concern. Only an idiot would tell a guy who shot 45% from 3 to go put his back to the basket and stay in the paint. In fact, if we get Nance, I think Underwood might say this is his ideal team.
Probably because Underwood has indeed been running an old school 5 for 3 years now. I think all of us at the keyboards can talk about what Underwood would prefer to run but recruits look mostly at what he has run. If he changes people will take notice
