NIL is big gamechanger.

I think Illinois has adapted quickly and funded NIL reasonably well based on our improved basketball recruiting.

I don't know if Missouri has big donors to fund NIL the same way. If they do they could upgrade via portal very quickly.

Illinois: “I really enjoyed how they focus on doing what they need to do to get their players to the League or to the pros. They really develop them in their system, and they have they freedom that when they move on to play in another system they’ll fit in that system and that stands out to me.”

Miami: “The most important thing for me is to see that they can develop me. I know going to the next level I’ll be facing stronger and bigger guys so being able to develop and maybe move out to the wing a little and showcase my skills shooting a little more. I think that could help me improve. So that’s really what I’ll be looking for on my visit.”

Penn State: “I liked how they focus on developing their guys. I know coach Shrewsberry is new there and last year was his first year but with the resources he had he put together a pretty good first year. I really admire his basketball brain and how he is able to put everything together and develop his kids.”

Read in bold. This gives clues to what he wants out of a program and where he’s leaning to.

Pretty common for a guy in his mid 50s to have a sophomore in high school. A lot less common for a guy in his late 30s to have a freshman in college. Either way yes makes us feel old when classmates or childhood idols have kids reaching milestones. In my case Gill was an idol and Frank was in many of my undergrad classes
Ditto. Speech Comm with Frank still one of the funniest (in class) moments. Impromptu speeches on 1st day of class. Frank's was "I'd like to thank everyone for paying tuition and supporting basketball so I can go to the NBA and make millions".

This young man seems uniquely cerebral. First recruit I've ever heard say they admire Coaches BBall brain.

The basketball arena is named for Sam Walton's granddaughter.

The talk here in Columbia is Arkansas is getting most of the Wal-Mart money right now. The basketball department has had a strained relationship with the heirs going all the way back to the arena naming fiasco. If Gates wins the money will come rolling in. Nothing I have seen makes me think he's not going to win. None of them spend much time in Columbia since their kids are all out of school. The local ties aren't nearly as strong as they once were.

Can't imagine this made the Walton family very popular in Missouri

....Ultimately, the Rams moved to Los Angeles under shady pretenses, burning any bridges they might have left in St. Louis as a result....

My dream is to become a giga-billionaire and become like T Boone Pickens at Oklahoma State who gave more than $650M to school including $265m to athletic programs. Fly in on my private jet for all the big games.

Sadly, a large portion of the population of Missouri could not care less about St Louis. They either were Chiefs fans, or became Chiefs fans after the Rams left. Stan completely screwing over St Louis isn't even a blip on their radar.

That may be true of Missouri outside of St. Louis, but is certainly not true of the greater metro area, which has a population of 2.8 million (Missouri population is 6 million).

Now, do those from the St. Louis area blame the Walton family as a whole for what Kroenke did? I'd be skeptical of that. I think it's telling that the Waltons arent mentioned once in the article linked in the post you were responding to.

As a St. Louis native, I actually had no idea that the Waltons we're involved and have always blamed Stan Kroenke, Roger Goodell, and NFL owners writ large in that order. I didn't even know Kroenke was married to a Walton.
