I don't know the answer to your question, but I do know that a player's attitude can wreck a team. Not sure how that applies to the entourage/family, but I suspect the staff has gotten pretty good at assessing those things.
Great call. The boards were fun the day he committed. No player in our history has been more off the radar.
Not sure if he was highly regarded coming in or not, but Nick Weatherspoon would be candidate

That he holds an Illinois offer is a fairly clear indication that our coaching staff sees whatever there is in that department as well worth what Jeremiah would bring to the team.

Wasn't around then, but understand that Harv Schmidt was considered a hot young coach early on in his tenure, going 19-5 and ranked as high as #4 in the AP poll in the 1968-69 season when recruiting Weatherspoon. Per the DI, Jerry Colangelo even offered him the Phoenix Suns head coaching job in 1970, but they couldn't agree on terms. Suns eventually gave the job to another college coach, Cotton Fitzsimmons of Kansas State. Schmidt went on to have a rocky tenure at Illinois, and was forced out after winning only 5 games in the '73-74 season and having fractured key recruiting relationships.
Harv Schmidt landed him along with Nick Connor that year. He had 2 or 3 years in a row of really highly rated classes

DWILL was regarded high enough but was in no way regarded for who he became he ended way stronger than his projection Bracey Wright was dwarfing him in high school
I believe Meacham was a starter at Dayton before transferring here.
