May not be the right place to ask this question...but I will anyway.... what's the number of the most Illinois players to receive All Conference, 2nd, 3rd team and honorable mention in one season??.....we may have several players make that list this year
I Hope Please GIF
It depends on who is voting. Per Big Ten media guide and counting just 1st team All-Big Ten, we've had 3 players selected twice. 1956 and 2005.
If you count coaches voting we've had 5 1st team all-big in 2005.

Nope. Not even remotely close. Did you watch any of his USA games?
Not sure what you mean what isn't close. Sergio McClain was a tremendous player, perhaps with less of an NBA-type skillset than Rodgers has, but regardless, neither one is a PG.

Rodgers and the team will struggle if he needs to play PG, as would any college basketball team needing to play any true freshman forward there regardless of talent level, especially in the Big Ten. Much as the 98-99 team did playing Serge there despite him being a stud as a basketball player and that team having the beginnings of a B1G Champion #1 seed.

If Clark's not ready the 22-23 team is in major trouble. Him just being healthy and serviceable is the relatively narrow bridge to accessing the serious upside this team might have.

Playing PG was a monumental struggle for Sergio. Don't think that'll be the case for Ty. He's a fantastic passer and great decision maker. FWLIW, I think he'll do well at point, albeit in limited minutes. We'll see soon enough.

I'm excited as can be about Rodgers, to the point that I'm willing to not yell at people making Draymond Green comps, about as high of praise as you can get.

But a point guard is not a forward with point guard skills. If you match up a true freshman forward with experienced Big Ten guards with quick hands and great ballhandling it's going to end badly.

Draymond himself led MSU in assists his junior year and was the creator and focal point of their offense, but Kalin Lucas and Korie Lucious were always out there with him, Green was not the PG.

Weirdo lineups for spot minutes in certain matchups can survive, and Brad likes to play mad scientist with that stuff. But for any length of time against a real team it's big trouble. Trent Frazier isn't still here to save us.

This is what I am worried about as well. Rodgers did not play PG in EYBL or FIBA and has only really played it in high school. I think he can push the ball up the floor off a rebound just fine and can perform pick and rolls in the half court off hand offs and short dribbles but I am a little skeptical of him handling the ball in half court situations for prolonged periods of time because he hasn't done it against comp.

Anyone get a bit nervous reading coach’s last answer around staying at Illinois long term? Wish he would have said “It’s the best job in America” instead of “It’s a really good job.” I do believe he’s happy here but sad that it’s always a wait and see approach - from the layers to the coaches. I get that it’s a business as well.

Thanks for the info...with all the pre season hipe of this team I am thinking we could have 3-4 make that list this year

Nope, not really worried at all. He gave an honest answer, which is more honest than a coach would typically give. He said he is happy, Illinois is a special place, and that he can absolutely see himself staying here for the rest of his career. But at the same time, !!!! happens and a scenario exists where things change. That's a true statement for everybody in any business.

BU literally just got a contract extension for 6 more years just this march.
No reason to be worried right now.

In that time either:
1. Brad will have won a National Championship and have done such a good job that even if he does leave, Illinois will be a premier coaching destination.
2. Brad's coaching never gets us past the first weekend of the tournament and we want him gone.
3. Somewhere in the middle and we either resign him or hire Chester as his replacement.

my dream is for BU to stay until he's ready to retire and then have CF or RPJr take over

Lots of really positive stuff in there to get us excited as fans. My concern is still at pg. Goodman mentioned in the interview that Epps turned the ball over multiple times in practice. Maybe our defense is awesome this year and nobody will have an easy time bringing it up the floor. Not really sure but having 2 point guards that are true freshman with no real backup is a bit concerning. I wish they would could have found a veteran in the portal.

PG does not have to always handle the ball or even distribute it. See Jordan's Bulls teams back in 90's. Color me not too worried. I can't believe we won't have at least two to three guys who can handle the ball well enough.

How flippin' awesome would it be for Underwood to sport a Daddy Brad shirt for the Michigan game? Howard would love that. Trigger alert.
