Dear Mr. Whitman,

Can we please postpone basketball season until football is finished? I'm already having too much fun!

Best regards,

Thank you PJ for not using Ibrahim more. I was confused by some of their play calls, especially in the first half. PJ is like a regional manager at a Fortune 500 company that never thinks they are wrong, no matter how lopsided the numbers may be.
Ibrahim is really good. I said "thank you!" when they punted on 4th and two. Not sure that we could have stopped them if they pounded Ibrahim there (or all day long, for that matter.)

I’m still trying to wrap my head around what this team has achieved so far compared with 6-6 /5-7 expectations on the optimistic end. Incredible.

Also trying to comprehend how, if not for a blown replay call at Indiana, they’d be 7-0, a feat Illini football hasn’t achieved in my lifetime of 57 seasons.

As Giorgi B would note: “Amazing.”

If you would have told me Illinois would be 6-1 in year four of the Bielema regime, I would have been giddy. Year two? Ecstatic.
I love the way this pushes back on the notion that a coaching staff needs "their guys" in order to be competitive, which is something I think has been a really toxic idea all over the country.

But our players deserve just as much credit for that as our coaches.

The moment that defines where we are, IMO, was after we got shut out by Wisky last year on Homecoming, Illinois Football, here we go again, and Bielema made those comments about not having any OL recruits in recent classes that were contributing and it really caused a bit of an earthquake in IlliniLand. 2-10, it's all Lovie's fault, rebuilding, trust the process, no one could possibly succeed with the empty cupboard BB was left, can't judge results until year 4, the whole message board culture war all flashed into view.

And then we went to Happy Valley the next week and outlasted the longest game in the history of college football. In that building during that week, the people in our program made the decision that things could be different. They chose the hard way. And now here we are.

Gritty, I came down hard on ya last week. I hope alopogies accepted. Hope we can turn the corner and leave those miserable times in the past at least for the next 2-3 years. Ill sob with ya if either of our currentcoaches get poached because wewouldnt fork up the dough. I think we have an A. D. Who knows it takes the all mighty dollar to get and retain success. Heres to hoping wecan hold on to the gold mine Whitman dug up.
