I'm confused. Is this the team's allotment, or the minimum number of tickets required to sell/take?

I'm betting on the Reliaquest Bowl in Tampa's Raymond James Stadium (8,500 tickets).

The last time I was there was for the Illini's Micron PC bowl game. I was an IFund member at the time and had seats in row 30 on the 40 yd line in Memorial Stadium. Bought my tickets through the University and was seriously disappointed with our seat location in the "200 Section" at the 10 yard line.

Does anyone know where, historically, participating team tickets are located? I see all kinds of tickets for ReliaQuest Bowl currently available on ticket web sites. But it looks like ticket availability in the end zone and corners are more limited. Does this mean that is where the school's tickets are/will be allocated? If so, I think I'll go open market.

Just to clarify here, are you saying that is the last time you were at an Illini bowl game? Because the Micron PC Bowl game the Illini played in was in Miami.

I wonder if they decided to just take an ACC team or Notre Dame and we just were left with the next best option because we weren’t going to get the Citrus Bowl anyways if Purdue won. They would’ve given it to PSU.

The can't simply decide to pass on a BIG team can they? I thought that option was only available if OSU made the Orange Bowl. But I'm not taking the family to Nashville, so if that's where they end up, I want everyone who attends to have fun.

I guess they can take whoever they want apparently. That’s why these bowl games are the way they are.

I just can't do the "oh no we're getting screwed out of the jewel we deserve" about the January 2nd Reliaquest Bowl.

Not entirely rational on either count, I fully admit, but if it were the Outback Bowl on NYD I would feel differently.

I'm genuinely torn on potentially actually preferring the Music City. New Years Eve! No TV competition! Potentially easier opponent!

Bottom line, we need to have more consistent winning seasons to be considered for the better bowls. Us losing to Indiana, MSU and Purdue isn’t going to cut it and that’s probably what the committee saw with our resume or body of work. They are probably going to ding both Iowa and Minny as well.

Right. Getting up late with a bit of a hangover and you've got the two Big Ten/SEC battles from Florida on ABC and ESPN. Leading into the Rose Bowl in the afternoon and then other big games at night.

The 2nd will still be a day off work (I think? I hope?) and it's still a big day in college football. But I dunno, not quite the same.

It's not like they haven't done this every time Jan 1 falls on an NFL Sunday forever, they have, it just is what it is.

But look, I'm not going to sit here and tell people to not be mad that one of our West opponents we beat has apparently snaked the spot from us somehow. But if you're gonna be mad, you better be buying a ticket and going to the game, because our football fans don't travel, and that's why this happens, end of story.

"The mission of the Tampa Bay Bowl Association is to create an economic impact in the Tampa Bay area, positively showcase the community nationally and internationally and manage an event that adds to the quality of life in our area while making a significant financial contribution to NCAA member institutions while providing a safe, educational and unique experience for the student athletes participating in the game."

The people who make the call are literally local hotel and restaurant owners and the like. They want fans to come to the game. All other considerations are only what is forced on them by the conferences and TV networks.

That does make sense. There seems to also be a better feeling for me for NYE games. But I also do value location and prestige of the Bowl.

Michigan and Ohio State have sealed playoff bids. The Rose will then take Penn State. No Big Ten team is left for the other NY6. Purdue presumably gets the Citrus. Who else? Maryland?

I think it’s Notre Dame because of the economic impact they will bring to Tampa and their total body of work is better. They beat Clemson and UNC. We didn’t beat one ranked team this year. Almost but still and our football fanbase doesn’t travel that well so a lot going against us.

They're only allowed to swap out for ACC/ND if B1G gets the Orange Bowl. At least that's what we've been told.

That’s strange because a poster on the Minny message board said their travel inquiries are already saying it’s probably the Pinstripe Bowl for them. Weird stuff going on. Maybe Kirk Ferentz is trying to whine his way into a good bowl.
