Illinois 68, Alabama A&M 47 Postgame

Mayer’s words and body language in that postgame presser were the most concerning thing I’ve seen this season. That seemed like a guy who is not bought in AT ALL, and while not going over the line in the presser, I would guess he’s saying a lot more among his teammates.
Hopefully it’s nothing crazy, but that is a guy that’s won a national championship, not just some transfer from a decent team.

The fact that Luke had to respond to Derek’s tweet is concerning. Tells me there is some truth there.

FT shooting remains an issue. need to improve if this team wants to go far in the tourney and conference play. you will need those points in close games and can't be shooting ~60% as a team
It seems to me that several have a very flat free throw shot. There is more margin for error with more arc to the shot. TJS's seems flat as well as Mayer. For sure Dainja but he is taller so harder to shoot an arching shot.

Mayer was expected to be one of the leaders at least by me. We went after him hard. So far, and I know there have been injuries, he hasn’t done that. He’s played well at times but we need more leadership on this team and he needs to be part of that.

Well, I may well get ripped for this by Illini Nation, and that’s ok.
I will start by saying I am a huge BU fan. What he’s built is amazing. He’s the real deal.
However, dude needs to figure out that the non-stop screaming may not be the answer to his frustration.
I was concerned after PSU debacle post game that he went a bit overboard.
CoHawks pre game interview (posted on Loyalty) he commented that they just need to tune BU out (or something to that effect)
I see MM commenting that coaches and players need to figure some things out internally.
What’s the deal with BU today screaming during a timeout at a grown man who is part of his staff? (sitting next to Tyler)
I just don’t see how constant screaming, rage, shredding people publicly plays out long term in a positive way.
IMO BU has done great things to rebuild and develop a great culture and winning program….but constant public shaming and humiliation isn’t the answer.
He was screaming at Coleman

The screaming and yelling in the players face as they come off the floor needs to stop. It’s obviously not helping and I think in my opinion the players don’t appreciate it and are tired of it. Saying nothing and putting said player on the bench in my opinion is more effective

He’s done it since he’s been here. And everywhere else he’s been.

Nope. I get you’re an insider. Mad props to you.
But he lit into the guy sitting next to Tyler. (On Tyler’s left side)
You are correct, he also lit up Coleman, and probably everyone else at some point.
Ahh must’ve missed it. He used to light Chin up all the time. Normally just about a player though. Not actually at the coach or staffer

If you play for BU you know what you signed up for. If you play for Izzo you know what you signed up for

Could BU handle situations better yes. However this is part of the gelling process you have to hit rock bottom look at the guys in the locker room and figure it out.

The great teams figure it out. The 05 team had a rough spell the year prior to their success. You just hope the players and coaches figure it out

Being housebound from surgery gives me an opportunity to watch a lot of college basketball which I love. I watched five different games today in their entirety and our coach was the only one that acted that way on the sideline that’s all I’m saying

I think that was always gonna be the case. Roster structure won't be where 80 percent of the team is gone each year.

Yeah..this year was tough. They really needed TSJ and Mayer to have a chance at making a run.

Next years team is better positioned to roll with the guys we already have although I’m not sure who the Alpha would be

No one had a problem with it the last 3 years?
I respect your inside info but cursing out people constantly isn’t it. Perhaps this is why his teams have historically had mental collapses when the pressure was high (never seen a sweet 16/4-6 in the tournament). Not doubting he’s a good coach but starting to question his leadership.

Not sure there’s ever a time to motherf@@ grown men when you’re trying to motivate them, even more disturbing when he’s proud of it.
