Wow! Nice win for Mount St Joseph! Major Upset of the #1 team in the country Montverde! Amani Hansberry looked VERY good in my opinion. Hansberry played the entire game, and led all scorers, and his team with 17 points, 8 rebounds, and a steal. Dravyn Gibbs-Lawhorn was not really a factor in this game but didn't look bad when he played. Would've liked to have gotten to see more of him. Analyst said this was really the first real test Montverde had faced this tournament. Looked like it was gonna be a laugher for Montverde early on, however, it ended up being a tough game throughout after a nice comeback by Mount St Joseph. I-L-L 🔶🔷💪🏾🔥🔥🔥🔥

Exciting game through out...........Hansberry with a great all around game ....he handles the ball very well for his size and shows great court awareness and BB IQ............looks like he could contribute next year for sure ........Gibbs-Lawhorn didn't hardly get to work up a sweat on the court , but had a good assist and played pretty good D while he was in there........

2 loaded HS teams played very good BB , with good fundamentals........I was very impressed with both teams.....

Shaheed Solebo 6'4 lefty scorer on Lane tech Tech/Meanstreets. 247 has him as the 12th rated player in the state for 2024. Anyone know if we've sniffed around him at all? 28 points, 6 assists the other day against St Ignatius. Only has a couple smaller offers right now.

Watched the first few minutes and it is immediately very easy to see why Asa Newell is so highly ranked. Montverde is stacked.
Watched the whole game and was left wondering why Asa Newell is so highly ranked as he did not leave his imprint on the game (like AH did) as would be expected.

Remember basketball recruit ranking is largely base on potential ie do they have the size and athleticism.

3 things star ranking don’t capture well
Shooting ability
Work ethic/attitude/competitiveness
Basketball IQ

Those three things the coach need to evaluate and only shooting can be taught

Guess I'll have to watch the rest after work then! In the first 2:30 of the game Newell scored 6 and forced AH into a bad pass and a bad shot. AH did score a basket on him, an ok look that rattled in. And he's a '24 so a year behind AH.

It's worth noting I think that Montverde has multiple top 100 guys, including on thier bench. Newell' backup is another 5-star. AH is THE guy for Mount St. Joseph. He's obviously going to get more touches and more chances. Looks like Newell was the third highest scorer on his team for this game. First, Kwame Evans is the #11 recruit in the class of 2023 and second was Cooper Flagg, the #2 recruit in the class of 2025.

If basketball IQ cannot be taught, then where do players get it? Magic? Of course it can be taught! But the middle point largely can't.
