I'd like to think at least that IW has built up strong relationships with his teammates and other coaches at Illinois over the past few years that one coach moving on won't be the end all be all. But obviously there is something there. If he announces he is hitting the transfer portal, well, you will be able to pinpoint the exact moment I finish reading that notification:

ha! yeah I have no idea, but CPatt was quite the father figure to the Trinity kids while he coached there so it would not be shocking to see them follow him. I hope they don't, but couldn't blame them in that situation.

I mean, we've all heard the insider chatter on CPatt on this board and know how little he's been able to scale his recruiting ability beyond his preexisting connections. We don't need to be cute here, he would not be getting this Purdue job if IW weren't a done deal.

We lose IW the same way we got him. Fair's fair.

All in all Walters is going to have a pretty unproven staff. If Kane and Harrell are your 2 vets I dont think that is a great thing. The fact he reached out to Patterson as well kinda shows his connections aren't very deep. Thats what I love about Bielema being our coach. He has been in the game for quite a while and has a TON of connections! I hope we DESTROY Purdue next year!

By all accounts CPatt is a great man, but as far as staff pecking order and abilities at this level I don’t know how much this hurts. I’ve mentioned it before, but RW was always going to have a huge hill to climb to build a great staff to have sustained success in his first job. These GA’s who are first timers are going to have to be some home run hitters to go along with IMO uncomplimentary styles of play on either side of the ball.
I hope we don’t lose IW or Love, but feel we have enough here and will be able l grab some impactful players thru the portal.

Congrats to Patterson!

College football is year round now like other college sports. We are going to lose coaches and players but it all starts at the top of the business model. CEO BB put these guys in positions to succeed and better that than having to trim the fat because of underperformance.

Walter's is absolutely purging the illini staff and no 2 cents about it. When he was initially hired I knew there would be some departures but not to this extent. I hate to say this because I loved Walter's but this could turn in a love/hate thing real quick for me.
He took Kane, Patterson and some off the field guys….he isn’t purging anything. And I can tell you Bret isn’t worried in the slightest about losing Kane or Patterson

Yeah, I mean all due respect to those kinds of bonds and relationships, and props to CPatt for being that man for those kids. But everyone has to grow up at some point. Isaiah Williams is going to be 21 next month. He's a grown a man. I'd like to think that he should feel comfortable parting ways with his coach if its his coach who is getting up and leaving, if that is his prerogative. I have no idea how attached he is to Illinois, Champaign, his teammates, and the people who are here. If all he has is his coach then yeah it doesn't make sense to stay. But if not, then there's no reason why he has to give up on the legacy he has been building here just for Patterson. They are going to have to part ways at some point. Other than Lovie (LOL), no NFL coach is adding him to their staff next year.

I will respect his decision. But I just have to also believe we are giving him every reason to stay and finish what he has started. We'll see...

This ... Everyone just gotta be patient and wait to see who Bret replaces these guys with ...

This shouldn't really come as a surprise that we lost both of these guys as myself and @illini0440 have been hinting at it all along ... Wish CP and Kane the best but ...

Hate to see guys go, but seems like the X & O core coaches are Buh, Bart Miller, McDonald and of course Lunney, whatever your opinion of our offense is. If that core stays together and BB is able to get a couple of top recruiters I don't think we have much to worry about in regards to the coaching staff.
