Illini2010-11

Major key to three game winning streak: Less fouling while still playing tight defense. MSU was not in bonus all night!!!

3 B1G losses: 18 free throws allowed @ MD, 10 allowed vs PSU (allowed many three pointers though), and 40 free throws allowed @ Northwestern.

After that game, 12 allowed vs Wisc, 11 allowed @ Neb, and 10 allowed vs MSU.

And there's such an element of surprise to it all.

With Kofi there was a total inevitability to it. If he can get his feet to this spot, game over, two points, seen it a million times, head back down to the other end of the floor.

Dain catches it at 10-12 feet and anything could happen.
I feel like Dain could be a guard in a pick up game

Thank goodness they finally stopped that MSU layup line. Much better movement and finding Dain in the 2nd half. When MM gets hot watch out. Nice to have him as an option. He gets beat a lot on d but is athletic enough to block shots from behind. Pretty crazy! I’ve never seen a team get this many blocks!

WHAT A GAME.............WHAT A COMEBACK BY THE UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS FIGHTING ILLINI..............................

Down 9...........................
kept our nose to the grindstone.............
went with the hot hand all game long....
TSJ in the first half and Dain & MM in the second half.................
Epps with a veteran move for the bunny late in the game .....Henceforth , Mr. Epps is the "" Elite Bucket Meister "..................
As far as Sincere , they said on the radio broadcast that he went to the scorer's table to go back in but the bench called him back....would have been a rowdy robust cheer if he had gotten back in..............
Another game thread that had so much noise that I wish some would think before letting their emotions start typing that noise....We are NOT a bubble team, as a couple said in the thread....................

BU on the radio interview..........................

2 really good teams....................
we held them to 4 assists and zero 3 pointers...................
MM with 6 blocks.......................
we only had 5 turnovers.................................
Dain is an elite defender......was spectacular on offense....................
BU said it was a chess match from his seat........kept MM in with 4 fouls b/c he is a grad transfer and highly intelligent........
gotta have composure and battle through adversity
crowd was fantastic ...........best fans in the nation................
Sincere WAS at the scorers table and BU had to reign him in.................I love it...................

prior to BU , they interviewed MM on the radio and he credited BU abd staff numerous times for the adjustments they made .....there is zero bad vibes between BU and MM............period.............
I would like some more info on the alleged schuffle between MM and Skyy in prior game ....sounds like the addition by subtraction has sparked some of this turnaround by the Illini......BTW , that is on my humble opinion and nothing else inferred...........MM did say that Dain is his roommate ....baylor boys ...

records are as follows ................

Overall record...........
12-5

B$G record.........
3-3

Phoenix record..............
3-0

Onto the Barn in gooferland and another victory for the................

Gonads of Granite
Testicles of Titanium
Scrotum of Steel

Gutsy win. Play was a little too uneven for me to emphatically say we’ve turned the corner, but we’re certainly peeking around it.
It had a little bit of the feel of some of our better early season performances, for better or worse.

But I think you can credit MSU for that to a certain point, they were super well prepared for us to zing the ball around in the spread so we had to find something else.

We didn't let the 7-0 run become the 15-2 run tonight though, that's gonna be the difference.

Also, three more years of Dain coming up? Yes please. Gonna be a really special player here
If he continues to improve a bit....he will be gone after next season. Of course, I hope he improves a ton and is around 3 more....but I would bet against it. He looks to be a future candidate for the rafters and another Illini legend from "U Betcha!" land like Steve Stricker. It is a treat to watch him play. He is far from lazy as some reported him to be. I would even go so far as to say he is the most skilled first year big ever to wear and Illini uniform.

What has been so much fun to watch is for DD and Epps to find their fit with the three upperclass guys. To win against anyone, you need 5 players on the floor who can get you 20 on any night and defend....and now we have that. With Goode, Harris, Ty, and RJ, we have guys that BU can fit in also for as many minutes as needed. We all saw the potential for this team, saw the problems they faced in learning where their piece fit in the puzzle, and are now seeing the catalyst of coaching slowing develop the chemistry needed. I truly hope these guys see it happening and can enjoy the season and have fun playing together and doing the little things that make the glue.

It will be quite interesting to see if BU tries to use Perrin during the next three months if he has the skills BU claims. Can't have enough bigs who can score and defend....but can he? I am not getting the feeling we will know any time soon.
