I love Epps but he is near the defender or athlete of the NBA 11th overall pick early entry to the NBA that Harper was. Harp was a beast in both end of the floor. In transition he was awesome. Plus Harp was a pure PG with size at 6'4".
However, while Epps isn't the athlete Garrus was but he could become that type of player. I too love Epps game and looking forward to see him develop going forward and the next few seasons.
I mean, he's already...checks notes...20 games into his collegiate career.

As long as we don’t have any Alex Legion, Sam Maniscalsco, A A Ron Cosby and Ahmad Starks comparisons.

What about Jeremy? The second coming of Jeremy. I think me committed his 7th grade summer :) :) :)

It’s interesting how Pru simply compared Epp’s business-like demeanor with Harper’s and it turns into how Epps couldn’t possibly match Harper as the 11th pick in the draft.

Thanks Chazz........I really find the hive mentality to be a living thing here at loyalty...........A simple statement about a correlation between 2 Illini players , past and present , was JMHO about one phase of each players make up while on the court , not a comparison of historical facts ........But hey loyalty , do what you do .....It's one of the numerous traits that has me here daily , waiting for that fork in the posting road , that takes a very simple post and turns it into a hot take , a hot topic , a blistering admission that some posters have no clue how much I , or any others , know about past greats of Illini lore......

Derek Harper and Kiwame Garris are 2 of my top 20 favorite Illini and in no way did I post anything to demean Mr. Harper's brilliant career...............

JMHO.........................

My understanding - Fears was ready to commit and Coach U wasn't ready to accept. Don't know if/how the other items you listed played into the decision.
My understanding is that Fears is a good PG that is not a great outside shooter. Wonder how his game translates to college game?
I agree with all of that. I do remember this was around the time they were after Boswell. His jumpshot looks a little better than last year. He has shown even during the summer that he is a very willing defender, taking charges and picking up 94 feet. What has really popped is the athleticism. He is right around 6 feet tall and is dunking and finishing over the rim with ease. I wanted that commitment also due to him having a brother that will be good. But look at what happened with the Clarks.

I could be wrong here, but I don't think we backed off of Boswell because we wanted the Clark's. Boswell chose to go somewhere else so we took our recruiting efforts elsewhere. Like I said, I could be wrong, but this is how I understand it.

Boswell (U of A) looks like a pretty good freshman. Although he does not start, he has gradually received more playing time and has been close to 20 minutes a game this month. He definitely looks quicker and a better ball handler than Skyy was, but that may because of the lingering impact of his injuries.

His Royal Frankness aka Frank Williams aka Da'Monte' dad
Not absolutely certain, but I believe that HRF nickname for Frank Williams was created by BLScribe, a former poster who was eventually the sports editor for the Peoria Journal Star. Scribe became a fan of Frank when HRF was in grade school. HRF was one of the elite ball handlers/passers the game has ever seen. Unafraid to try doing anything on the court, he was a more controlled version of Pistol Pete who was the most fearless innovator the game has ever seen. There have been dozens of skilled players that have taken the court in an Illini uniform, but none of the ilk of HRF.

How could any of us forget this one: he said he only came to the visit Illinois because his mom wanted him to. We thought we had a chance until that nugget came out.

The goal next year is to have Epps play the two and bring in a transfer veteran pg. Moretti would be the backup and play 10-15 min. Staff likes him a lot along with Perrin
Anyone else seeing the problem we had last year where we were very very undersized at the guard positions? I love Trent, Plummer and have no hard feelings towards Belo but their lack of size was a massive issue. Especially when we got to the tourney. Epps at the 2 scares me unless we get a PG that is 6'3"+

The problem last year wasn’t simply two small guards. DW probably isn’t his listed height of 6’4” and Grandison probably is shorter than his listed height of 6’6”. Even if they are as tall as listed, we were extraordinarily short for a D1 high level basketball team at every position other than center.

The problem with last years team was injuries, not the size of the guards. The team, if healthy, had serious potential. Epps and Sencire are not small guards and you have no idea how tall the guard we (might) add is.

Im more worried about how good PG-TBD is at basketball than how tall he is. Our issues in the tournament have had more to do with not making shots and being sloppy than not getting stops. We shot 34% from the field and turned the ball over 17 times against Houston.

Have you seen St. John's play? That is one of the most disorganized teams I've ever seen! They have nothing that even resembles an offense! Even D. Williams couldn't lead that team.
Mike Anderson led teams routinely look disorganized and are routinely beat by competition.

A lot of that had to do with us being undersized. We turned the ball over so much because they were so much longer and more athletic than we were.

Well then we should try to be more of those two things.
