Let's start a go fund me for you NOT to watch lol.

I would like someone to start a gofundme for a good portion of this board to not watch...or comment on what they think they see.

The amount of hate Coleman Hawkins gets on this board is ridiculous. He obviously didn't shoot well today, but he did a ton of other things. 9 rebounds, 3 blocks, an assist, interior defense. I find it funny I didn't see you all saying "Shannon lost us that game". Go check out his stats if you want to cherry pick stats to attack someone who didn't shoot great. Was Hawkins guarding Perkins all game? That guy is why we lost more than anything else. He went off. It happens. But all this focusing on one guy....while ignoring what he adds...is pathetic. We were up 8 during the game and what is being said on the board? Crap about Hawkins. It literally makes the game threads unfollowable.

Ty Rodgers mom was right about a lot of our fans.

I guess I have a different take- I thought the Illini played extremely well, maybe their most complete game against a quality opponent. However, I agree that one play destroyed them: drop coverage on the pick and roll. Just like against Indiana no adjustment was made against the one thing causing all the problems.
The adjustment was to put Shannon on him. He does not pressure the ball and plays too far back. You have to get the ball out of Perkins hands. That’s on the coaches. TSJ guards like that all the time….just like the end of the first half.

Again, no.

Definitely had their chances so not all on the refs but they definitely had an impact. The out of bounds on Hawkins call, 10 fouls in the 1st 9 minutes of the 2nd half, and not calling travel on Ullis in the corner with 11 seconds all were huge. Gotta play perfect to overcome that.

We fouled too much in the second half early on and that prevented any sort of pressure defense at the end.

RATS!
Good effort today. Desperation 3 to end the half is the difference, coupled with a few hustle plays at the end, bad luck review, and a few lazy turnovers.

To those who think the refs are the reason that Illini lost the game...

Good teams don't make dumb mistakes. Good teams play with a higher basketball IQ than this team showed at times during this game.

Who is good in the B10 then? Aint a team in the league that doesnt make some dumb mistakes. Edey/Gillis combined for as many TOs as shannon/Cohawk......in one half so far.

Ty and Epps are no longer playing like they just got out of HS, very happy for them and our future . Hawkins absolutely goes on stretches where he loses his mind in games. Thrown the ball away, shooting 3 shots when he can't throw it in ocean. I saw him launch 1 early in 2nd half from 30ft. You have got to be kidding me. I will say it again this is all on the coaching staff. Know Your Role on Team! We fouled, but this was the worst officiated game I've watched in 10 yrs. Why we did not call a timeout with 10 left is beyond me. Mayer should have been shooting that.

If you dont think that the refs missed crucial calls down the stretch that hurt us then I guess we watched two different games.
Clearly the refs missed the foul on Hawkins, but I think that's one that the refs swallow the whistle on 8 times out of 10 near the end of the game. It just so happens that in this case the foul is what caused his hand to knock the ball out of bounds. It's kind of silly when you can clearly see 2 things occuring on a replay, but have to ignore one of them and overrule a call based on the other.

Entertaining game that was there for us to take. We just couldn't get out of our own way yet again.

The enigma that is Coleman Hawkins continues on.

Need to find 4 more wins out of our 5 more winnable games (four home games and at tO$U). 5 would be better. Not expecting road wins at PSU, IU, or Purdue.

I don’t come on here during games because of the ridiculous vitriol. Such a surprise that it was spewed against ColeHawk by people who’ve never set foot on a basketball court. And, let me guess, the refs and announcers were totally against our beloved Illini.

He played hard and did make contributions on the defensive side, but it is really hard to overlook some of the bad. I think the problem is that his role on the offensive side of the ball is much larger than it has any right to be.

Illini2010-11

Sugar Grove
1) The Illinois rule bit the Illini in butt today - that last 2 minute review needs to be revised. When there is a clear foul that impacts who ball goes off of, either give ball to team that would have been fouled, or call a foul. Clear momentum shift with game tied that went against us.
2) Great effort today, but we simply had too many dumb fouls on defensive end...Iowa lived at ft line (and made a large %, something we struggled with).
3)Every 50-50 play and call went the way of Iowa down stretch, but to be expected on road.
4) How did Iowa lose to Eastern!?
5) Need to take care of home court next week. This loss hurts, but it ultimately does not ruin the season at all.
6)When did UCONN join the B1G? I guess Maryland became UCONN

Some negativity on CoHawk. But the fact is, he played hard and aggressively at both ends for the first time in awhile....I want to see that grow and it comes at a good time. Obviously, the Hawks were somewhat gifted this game on an excessive amount of FTs awarded to Perkins, but that is something that hard to avoid when he is trying to draw fouls while under control while TSJ does the same while out of control. There is a huge difference and TSJ won't get the touch fouls while running wild and losing his handle. TSJ could do the same thing if he were more willing to get to the paint and fake or make quick changes in direction...but that is not his focus.

Overall, there are so many things to like about this game.
1. Illini exchanged haymakers and leads for the entirety of the game.
2. Shot selection was soooooooo much better and with purpose.
3. Everyone played a positive part.
4. Frosh don't look like frosh anymore but are becoming leaders.
5. Illini killed them on the boards.
6 Early lead built on great, deliberate play without turnovers
7. Defense was suffocating and intense for most of the game

This is a tough loss for our guys...but one they can remember as a standard of play from which to tweak into excellence and growth at the right time..........or.........they can let the disappointment pull them into obscurity. I don't believe BU will let the latter happen. This loss has no bearing on the future except as a catapult. It was always a stacked deck against the Illini today. It did not get decided until the last card and Iowa held a pretty good hand from the deal.

So, go beat Minny on Tues. and then show the world what you've got in your heart on Sat. with yet another step up in play....and maintain THAT level for the rest of the season and get that double bye. Keep growing...keep getting better....keep having your mates back and grow your game. And for Pete's sake cut out the dumb turnovers and hit your freakin' free throws!!! (Good job tonight DD, but if you made the one you missed, and 3 for Hawk, the game may have been won...so keep working on them).

This one doesn't bother me. On the road at Iowa is a crap shoot. We played them hard. and probably win more times than not. The Illini are not going to win the regular season bigten. It belongs to Purdue. It's all about seeding at this point. I want a double bye in BTT and 5 seed in NCAA. I think this can happen. Coleman can't go 0'fer and if RJ can't hit a shot, it's time to bench him. Hopefully Goode can pick up his minutes.
